Idia and Azul are the only two of the main cast in the boardgame club.
In Idia’s dorm uniform vignette we see him jokingly offer Azul the position of Ignihyde housewarden. It is difficult to tell how close the two club members are, however: Azul implies that it is rare even for him to see Idia in person rather than via tablet, while Idia refers to Azul as “spooky”.
Azul is also just as willing as the other students to sacrifice Idia to Eliza in Phantom Bride, saying that he “can’t see through all (his) tears of joy” and gleefully observing “it would appear he has so little to say in his defense, he’s resorted to high-pitched squealing” when Idia tries to guilt the others for abandoning him and Vil and Leona point out that he tried to sacrifice them first to save himself.
During Glorious Masquerade Idia reacts in surprise to seeing Azul smiling and being pleasant to someone he has just met, with Azul having to explain to him that this is a rare opportunity to connect with someone as important as any housewarden, “for the future”.
Azul also expresses embarrassment at being associated with Idia during Vargas Camp 2, observing that he had assumed Idia would cause him issues during camp but Idia was even more useless than expected.
Azul uses his familiarity with Idia’s quirks to convince him to participate in Halloween, which Ortho—at first—misinterprets as Azul’s genuine interest in them all celebrating together. It is quickly revealed that Azul is charging money for a guide book that features Idia’s projection mapping and did not want to have to pay for reprinting.
Azul’s lab wear vignette involves Azul recruiting Grim into helping with maintenance on Ortho. When Idia has difficulty explaining the situation Azul translates on his behalf and convinces Grim to perform a dangerous procedure through a combination of blackmail and tuna.
When Grim asks “What’s the Octavinelle housewarden doing askin’ us for help on behalf of a guy from Ignihyde” Azul explains that it is because Ortho is Idia’s brother and his “heart melts for such beautiful brotherly love”, but by the end of the vignette it is revealed that Azul had wanted the old part that gets removed from Ortho, crafted by “renowned genius Idia himself”.
Much like Azul translates for the socially awkward Idia, Idia translates for Azul during Glorious Masquerade when Sebek proves himself incapable of reading a room: Azul remains silent when their table, with Malleus, is filled with no seat left for Sebek, but comes up with a solution when another character expresses interest in sitting with them.
Sebek asks why Azul said nothing before and Idia points out, “Obviously, he didn’t like the thought of someone so obnoxious joining us”. Sebek insists that Azul sit on his lap. Azul says no.
