Azul and Sebek

When he offers his assistance to Diasomnia prior to Glorious Masquerade Sebek responds to him with, “As if we would lower ourselves by conferring with someone from Octavinelle!,” but after Azul is sincerely impressed by Malleus’ singing Sebek shifts gears, saying, “You truly understand the magnitude of Malleus’s greatness! I’m seeing you in an entirely new light! YOU’RE SO RIGHT!,” and even referring to Azul by name.

It is possible that Sebek’s distrust of Azul might be more his association with Octavinelle than an issue that Sebek has with Azul specifically: in addition to not wanting to confer with someone from Octavienlle during Glorious Masquerade, he acknowledges Azul in a vignette with, “You’re from Octavinelle…It’s nothing. Away with you.”

Noticing a labcoat of Malleus’ that Sebek stained with ketchup and is unable to clean with magic, Azul offers “a fine detergent” of his own making, convincing a reluctant Sebek to go to him for aid. Azul says that the special detergentnt is values at 3,000 madol (30 thaumarks) but, after Sebek reacts with surprise, declares that it just “happens to be on sale at the moment” for half price, which Sebek pays.

During the NBC event Azul moves a basket on Sebek’s behalf, to Sebek’s regret. As he explains to Jack. “Now I’m indebted to him. I’ll never live this down…!”

For compensation Azul asks for “the honor of delivering the basket” to Sally, which Sebek grants, though he insists on going along, as “Someone should keep an eye out and ensure you’re not plotting anything.”

When Sebek is denied a seat at Malleus’ table during Glorious Masquerade but space is made for Rollo at Azul’s suggestion that Grim sit in the prefect’s lap, Sebek is not amused. He demands that someone besides Malleus allow him to sit in his lap, and when Azul responds, “Are you aware of how tall you are?,” Sebek says that Azul can sit in his lap, instead. Azul declines.

Azul and Sebek overlap in Book 7 where Azul insists that, even in a dream, he cannot picture himself as a start athlete after he himself has awoken.

Sebek observes that Jade and Floyd had not been able to transform into their human bodies even after awaking due to how firmly they believe that they need a transformation potion to do so, despite how such restrictions do not exist in dreams, and says, “I suppose you must believe you’re bad at sports just as firmly. That’s quite the conundrum,” then gives Azul some water.

Azul seems to hold onto Sebek for support during his second dream crossing, with Sebek saying, “You exceeded the bounds of propriety back there. Your grip was so strong, I half feared you’d pull my arm out of its socket!” Azul explains, “With all these extra people, there weren’t many places I could hold on.”

During Leona’s dream of Book 7 Azul goes to Sebek’s aid as he battles guardsmen of darkness. Rather than continue on to the throne room with the rest of the group, Azul volunteers to stay behind with Sebek and Silver, to fight.
