Azul says, “When I don’t have plans, I like to attend to my mental and physical well-being. I get up early and make myself a drink of whatever suits my fancy that day, and then I often read business journals and newspapers, or check the news, or read about current trends,” and this is exactly what we see happen in his fifth birthday vignette: after Azul awakens a newspaper is delivered directly to his dorm room, which seems to be a daily occurrence (“It never fails to arrive right on time. That’s the reason l’ve been able to get up at the same time every morning”).
Azul prepares an unspecified warm drink to enjoy while reading the paper, and then does his skincare routine, saying, “I have to be conscientious and stay on top of every little detail. After all, personal appearance makes up 55 percent of the impression people have of you. And everything above the neck is particularly subject to scrutiny. I need to be certain my makeup stands up to it all.” (“First impressions are everything!”)
On his birthday Azul chooses to use bold eyeliner, and angles his eyeshadow and brow line “to give (his) eyes an intellectual sharpness. I’d like to come off as a bit intimidating. That makes it easier to change people’s impression of me when I treat them with sincerity.”
Azul also uses lip gloss and contours, saying, “I put in a tremendous amount of work to determine how to make it look natural, so others can’t tell I’m wearing makeup. One must be diligent in all things, and cosmetics are no exception.”
Floyd says that makeup “was always just a huge pain” for him because he grew up in the Coral Sea, but then follows with, “No, wait. Azul puts on makeup every time he wears his dorm uniform, even though HE grew up in the sea. Huh. Now that I think of it, Azul mentioned that the Sea Witch was really keen on the stuff and paid a ton of attention to how she looked. Y’think he does all that outta respect for her?”
After styling his hair Azul chooses a fragrance that will be appropriate for the day, and seems to own multiple varieties. In the vignette he chooses a cologne “with herbal notes” and is “a pleasant reminder that (he is) on land.”
Azul says that cologne is “one of (his) favorite parts of living on land, so (he is) a bit particular about it.”
Azul says, “On days when I need to be at my best, I always put my right shoe on first. I suppose it’s a superstition of mine.”
When asked how he likes to relax Azul says, “I like to read in my dorm room. I tend to check out entrepreneur autobiographies and other such books from the library, then read them with the lighting nice and low. I also have my elegant decor and my collection on display to set the mood. Taking a moment to admire the environment I’ve cultivated for myself is always soothing to me.”
