Twisted Wonderland Theory: Briarland’s Invaders

Fae lands were stolen by their own neighboring countries banding together under Henrick. Immediately afterward, “an endless series of wars broke out over resources.”

In a flashback a fairy says, “our enemies are closing in and the Dawn Knight has fallen,” but who exactly were those “enemies”?

The same countries that had been their allies against Maleanor?

It was a fascinating example of history repeating itself: neighboring countries coming together against a common “enemy,” first Maleanor and then Henrick, the very person who had led them against Maleanor in the first place.

And this is not the first time we have heard of this in Twst:

Eliza’s grandparents explain that their neighbors, too, betrayed them, attacking their kingdom without warning.

The fae were forced off Briarland and holed up in what became Briar Valley, a space that is only a small fraction of what used to be their home.

Eliza did not survive the war, as Maleanor did not, but what of the rest of the country?

Did they, too, retreat to somewhere in order to escape the carnage brought upon them by their neighbors? If so, where did they go?

Eliza’s kingdom fell 500 years ago, overlapping exactly with the arrival of the first humans in Briarland.

Lilia, dreaming of 400 years in the past, says, “A century ago, it was one little sailboat that came ashore at Cape Sunrise…”

Did Eliza’s people fall to their invaders, flee to Briarland and apply the same lessons taught to them by the people who stole their country, becoming the invaders themselves?

(Assuming that Leah is of the royal bloodline, would this make Silver a distant relative of Eliza? 📝)
