Riddle’s tutoring of Cater is mentioned a second time when Cater attempts to tutor Deuce in math (“I’m not exactly a math whiz myself, though. Then again, I guess it’s an upperclassman’s job to “tutor his underclassmen. And Riddle does get mad when a dorm member flunks an assignment.”)

Despite other dorm members’ displeasure with Cater’s position as “one of Housewarden Riddle’s cronies”, Riddle does not seem to make exceptions for him: In Cater’s PE vignette he attempts to use his unique magic to trick Vargas into believing he has run a full five laps, but Riddle catches him red-handed.

Cater attempts to talk his way out of the situation but receives no support from Trey, and Riddle reports him to Vargas. On EN Cater tells Trey, “I thought we were tight!”, which is close enough to his original line of “I thought we were best friends!”, but Trey follows that up with “You and me are tight, but me and Riddle are tighter” on EN, which Trey has never actually said.

His original line is closer to, “I’m the housewarden’s top ally, too”, implying that he is close to both of them.

Riddle also seems to hold Cater to the same rules as everyone else, demanding at the end of Phantom Bride that Cater return to the dorm and serve him tea within the next five minutes as a consequence for coming in second place in the previous day’s croquet tournament, in accordance with rule 703.

In a vignette Cater says to Trey that Riddle is “ALWAYS on edge” and “never had an ounce of innocence, even on his first day here”, and also that Trey is possibly “way too devoted to Riddle”, but we do see him defend Riddle to other students.
Cater defends Riddle when it is revealed he is unfamiliar with Cater’s phone case brand, and when Grim accuses him of having not changed since his overblot.

Riddle compliments Cater on his acting during the Terror is Trending event but Cater insists the credit for their success should go to everyone in the dorm, and during Firelit Sky he says “And if I know Riddle—which I totally do…he’d refuse any gift I got him if I didn’t have something for the rest of the dorm”, leading him to purchase bracelets, handkerchiefs, dates and coffee so that he will have enough souvenirs for the dorm.

Jamil responds with “I guess that’s why you’re the tyrant’s—I mean, your rigorous housewarden’s right-hand men.”
In the main story we see Cater following up with victims of Riddle’s rages and with Riddle himself, while—post-overblot—he is certain to prioritize Riddle’s wellbeing and send Trey along with him to the nurse, leaving Cater to oversee cleanup alone.
Riddle has a line about tarts made for him by Trey and Cater, and recommends going to Cater for flying advice, as “He has a superb sense of balance”.
Ace agrees, “Cater’s got some surprisingly good moves”.
