Deuce and Blastcycles (pt1)

Deuce says he only signed up for track and field because the school does not have a blastcycle club and Crowley rejected his application to create one: “There’s no better thrill than swerving around corners and going full throttle down the open road.”

Deuce says, “It’s almost like you become one with the wind…I just adore that sensation,” and he is delighted by how Silver’s dream-jumping recreates the feeling: “The lateral g’s almost blew me away, but l’ve never felt more ALIVE!”

While explaining how blastcycles work to Ace, Deuce realizes that feeling like you’re “one with the wind” while powering yourself without a vehicle is the same as running, and says his decision to join the track and field club “wasn’t just some random choice for me; it was destiny”.

Deuce says that it used to be he would rarely play games with friends because he was so hung up on blastcycles and he and friends would ride blastcycles together before, “but running’s just as fun.”

Deuce challenges Jack to a race that involves balancing sugar cubes on frying pans, coming out on top despite setting off long after Jack. Deuce explains, “I’ve done a lot of blasting-ah, blastcycle riding-over rough dirt roads and steep inclines. I know a thing or two about staying balanced.”

In a vignette we see Idia repairing a broken-down blastcycle that Deuce has asked for his help with fixing, but it is not specified whose blastcycle it is or where Deuce got it.

When Ortho apologizes for his Stargazer Gear burning grass on the sports field that Deuce and the others must then clean up Deuce says, “When it’s time to go full blast, you gotta commit to it and put the pedal to the metal!,” possibly in a reference to blastcycles. Ortho responds, “I’m detecting irregularities in your vitals when you discuss this topic.”

Deuce borrows a blastcycle from Ignihyde during Book 5 to take Epel to a beach, surprising Epel with his speed (Deuce: “Really? I mean, I thought I was going pretty slow… Er, y’know what? Forget I said anything”).

When asked what his hobby is Deuce answers, “blastcycle riding,” and he says he can do basic maintenance.
