Deuce says he only signed up for track and field because the school does not have a blastcycle club and Crowley rejected his application to create one: “There’s no better thrill than swerving around corners and going full throttle down the open road.”
Deuce says, “It’s almost like you become one with the wind…I just adore that sensation,” and he is delighted by how Silver’s dream-jumping recreates the feeling: “The lateral g’s almost blew me away, but l’ve never felt more ALIVE!”
While explaining how blastcycles work to Ace, Deuce realizes that feeling like you’re “one with the wind” while powering yourself without a vehicle is the same as running, and says his decision to join the track and field club “wasn’t just some random choice for me; it was destiny”.
Deuce says that it used to be he would rarely play games with friends because he was so hung up on blastcycles and he and friends would ride blastcycles together before, “but running’s just as fun.”
Deuce challenges Jack to a race that involves balancing sugar cubes on frying pans, coming out on top despite setting off long after Jack. Deuce explains, “I’ve done a lot of blasting-ah, blastcycle riding-over rough dirt roads and steep inclines. I know a thing or two about staying balanced.”
In a vignette we see Idia repairing a broken-down blastcycle that Deuce has asked for his help with fixing, but it is not specified whose blastcycle it is or where Deuce got it.
When Ortho apologizes for his Stargazer Gear burning grass on the sports field that Deuce and the others must then clean up Deuce says, “When it’s time to go full blast, you gotta commit to it and put the pedal to the metal!,” possibly in a reference to blastcycles. Ortho responds, “I’m detecting irregularities in your vitals when you discuss this topic.”
Deuce borrows a blastcycle from Ignihyde during Book 5 to take Epel to a beach, surprising Epel with his speed (Deuce: “Really? I mean, I thought I was going pretty slow… Er, y’know what? Forget I said anything”).
When asked what his hobby is Deuce answers, “blastcycle riding,” and he says he can do basic maintenance.
When asked where he would want to go if he could use flight magic to go anywhere Deuce says he would go see a blastcycle race to watch from above the course, as TV broadcasts cut between different racers so he can’t see as much of the racers and machines he is interested in.
When Malleus comments on how he seems quite taken with blastcycles Deuce responds, “I LOVE them!,” and then apologizes for getting carried away.
Deuce also regales Sebek with his love of blastcycles, saying that he used to rev his engine in long tunnels, and “Sometimes, when I was driving alongside someone who made their engine sound cool, we’d start competing to see who could make their engine go louder.”
Deuce follows with, “Oh, I’m always careful to avoid causing a disturbance when I go for a ride. These days, at least.” It seems that Deuce would also participate in blastcycle races.
Deuce says he had been hoping to go blastcycle riding while home for the White Rabbit Fes event, but he abstains due to having been joined by others from NRC.
Deuce gets Floyd a “Blastcycle Passenger Ride Ticket” for his birthday, saying, “Ace told me you like to have fun. I thought about what was most fun to me, and I settled on offering you a blastcycle ride as a gift.”
Deuce seems to share his love of vehicles with his mother: she says. “When I’m behind the wheel I can just sort of…feel my way through what I need to do, like whatever I’m driving is an old friend,” and Deuce says he knows what she means: “I form a bond with blastcycles too.”
