Deuce and Idia

Deuce is unimpressed by Idia during the Wish Upon a Star event, saying that his own dancing still needs work but he doesn’t “need any commentary from a guy who’s slacking off during practice.”

Idia fires back: “if we’re gonna nitpick —what about YOU? Are you pulling YOUR weight? What, you think Wishing Stars are more valuable if you leave your room to get them? How about you get some results before hopping up on your high horse?”

Deuce then vows to not only perfect the dance and meet his star-collecting quota but to meet Idia’s quota as well, which Idia dismisses as mathematically impossible.

Deuce bets him that he will do it, and if Idia loses he is to perform at the ceremony in person. Idia agrees (“Do all you Heartslabyul guys think you’re shonen manga protagonists or something? It’s like you’re one step away from a speech about passion”) with the caveat that, if Deuce fails, Idia will be dropping out of the ceremony entirely.

Deuce successfully improves his dancing and collects all the stars he needed by the deadline, forcing Idia to play the drums in person.

When the ceremony is on the brink of being canceled due to inclement weather Idia tells Deuce, “I’m not a chump like you, Deuce. I’m not capable of running around like a headless chicken, collecting 300 Wishing Stars, all to get some introverted nerd out of his room for a ceremony. Now you, Deuce? You ARE that chump.”

Idia then reveals his plan to save the ceremony: fitting Ortho with gear that will enable him to take the wishing stars beyond the storm clouds and into space.

This revelation delights Deuce. Idia asks him not to turn things “into some touchy-feely moment.”

Idia is Deuce’s interviewer for his second birthday and gifts him with 20 cups of personally curated instant noodles.

In a vignette we learn that Idia also agrees to fix a broken-down blastcycle for Deuce. Afterwards Ortho says, “Deuce Spade was so happy when he got his blastcycle back good as new…Idia could’ve come with me to deliver it, though. Oh well. Guess I’ll just describe Deuce’s reaction to him when I get back to the dorm.”

During Glorious Maquerade Deuce saves Idia from a falling chandelier, tasting his ankle in the process. Deuce asks the rest of the group to continue on to Rollo without him. Idia says, “do you realize how much of a guilt trip this is? You got injured saving me. I didn’t even get a say in that!,” but Deuce assures him that it is not Idia’s fault, but rather his own for failing to fall properly.

Rather than “run around in agony and go RIP anyway” like characters in a disaster movie Idia volunteers to stay behind with Deuce (“Why get all worked up trying to escape when you could just kick back, chill, and go out peacefully?)”, but Rook volunteers to stay behind in his place.
