Deuce and Malleus

Malleus is Deuce’s third birthday interviewer. Deuce teaches him what “trash talk” means but asks him not to use it (“If Sebek finds out I taught you that, he’ll chew me out for sure….”).

Deuce shares a similar moment with Riddle during the Rapunzel event.

Deuce mentions his past to Malleus and is grateful when Malleus does not press him about it, saying, “Good thing (Malleus) isn’t one to probe for more details!”

Deuce shares with Malleus how he wants to eventually become top of his class in defensive magic and Malleus offers to Deuce the opportunity to guard against one of his spells after Deuce has honed his skills, saying, “I’ve been hoping to make strides of my own in that subject. I imagine we could make excellent study partners.”

Deuce is hesitant, but ultimately decides, “the higher the goal, the higher the motivation, right? I’ll gladly take you up on that offer…once I’m ready!”

Deuce is Malleus’ judge for Master Chef.

Deuce describes Malleus in his halloween costume as “even more gallant than usual.”

When Malleus begins to lecture Deuce on gargoyles Deuce literally runs away (Malleus: “Running inside an art museum…it may be only a matter of time until we hear Rosehearts’ angry voice.”)

In a vignette Malleus’ tamagotchi-inspired electronic pet stops working after it gets wet in the botanical gardens. Cater suggests that Deuce may be able to fix it and Malleus immediately appears in from of class 1A, asking for him.

Ace and Deuce both assume that Deuce has done something to deserve being “called out by a super-scary upperclassmen,” and when Malleus takes Deuce to the courtyard Deuce declares that he is ready to fight: “If you want a fight, you’ve got one! I’m ready to brawl ’til one of us can’t stand up anymore!”

Malleus does not seem to understand exactly what it is that Deuce is saying, asking him to drop his “ridiculous pose” and see if he will be able to fix the toy.

Deuce agrees in order to not harm his dorm’s reputation, following with, “and I’d be a fool to pass up an opportunity to get on your good side.”

Deuce quickly fixes the toy by drying it out and Malleus rewards him with a “super-rare ore that you can only get in Briar Valley.”

Malleus offers to arrange for something more if it is not enough by Deuce assures him it is more than he deserves.
