We have multiple examples of Deuce becoming nervous when it is time to perform in front of others: he says his knees won’t stop shaking after being told he is going to be on TV, he gets tense and worries about blanking out on the lyrics to Piece of my World directly before his VDC audition, he is awkward when while interacting with campus visitors during Halloween and gets cold feet in front of Eliza, unable to think of anything to say.
Before Deuce’s Starsending performance Ace says, “If I know Deuce—and I think I do by now—he’s gonna be so freaked out he’s frozen stiff. There is then a scene cut to Deuce, worrying if they will be able to manage the performance after all.
Jamil comments on Deuce being “so jittery” when introducing himself at the Glorious Masquerade social, saying, “There’s nothing wrong with putting your best foot forward, but there is such a thing as trying too hard.”
Deuce will be selected for special opportunities fairly often: He wins a Queen of Hearts badge from a raffle, becomes a Halloween management committee member after a random drawing, is selected for the Stargazer role and randomly selected to work at the school store.
A consistent streak of good luck is possibly something Deuce has in common with Idia. More here ▶︎
