Deuce’s Future Dream

Deuce’s wish for the Starsending event is to become a “magic marshal,” a kind of police officer that handles magic-related crimes, saying, “I’m sure my mom will worry a lot less if I get a respectable job.”

Deuce says, “I’m doing everything I can now to make sure I can get there eventually. That includes applied magic and flight training. I also review my lectures every day.”

Also as a part of his magic-marshal self-training Deuce says he has put most of his effort into media research: “I watch movies and TV shows featuring cops to study how they conduct investigations and take down perps. I’ve also memorized intense-looking running styles for pursuing suspects and cool-sounding one-liners to use when making an arrest.”

Deuce says he is particularly focusing on defensive spells, as that is the kind of magic that magic marshals value most: “At least, that’s my understanding based on this mage cop TV show I like. But they have a real cop consulting on the show, so l bet it’s actually true!”

Deuce says that his future career is of the reasons why he wants to work on his problem of acting before he thinks.

We get more details into this dream in Wish Upon a Star, where Deuce explains that, as he was so misbehaved as a kid, people stopped trusting him and he would get accused of things that he had nothing to do with, and no one would believe him (“Looking back, though, they had every reason not to”).

Deuce explains that there were only two people who always believe him: his mother and a neighborhood police officer, who would always make sure he was all right and hear his side.

Deuce explains, “And they’d ask around town and prove I had an alibi when people tried to pin something on me!”

Deuce says he and his mother were grateful for them and he wants to be like them in the future so that his mother will worry less.

This police officer comes up again during the White Rabbit Fes event, where Deuce overhears passerby gossiping to each other about how a local officer would keep an eye out for him even on their days off.

Deuce explains that the officer really seemed to care about him, but when they were transferred to another location he never said goodbye as he “was too stubborn.”

Deuce says, “I swore l’d turn my life around and show them how much I’d improved when I saw them again. Things don’t always work out the way you want, though, do they?”
