When asked how old he was when his magic first manifested Epel responds, “I think I was around 10. I was helping my family with a harvest. I used magic to pluck an apple from high up, then I realized what I did.”
Epel says that there are lots of people in his hometown who use magic for agricultural work, giving the examples of “sloped fields that aren’t suited for machines” and Potionology helps with selective breeding and fertilizer development, and flight magic’s good for surveying land and harvesting.”
When Jack asks if Epel’s family has a “strong potionology background” that resulted in him being sorted into Pomefiore Epel responds, “Um… Before I enrolled here, I loved flying through the air, so flight magic was pretty much all I ever used.”

Epel uses magic to levitate a crate of apples during Glorious Masquerade, which he says he also does at home.

He uses fire magic to try and set Rook’s broom aflame in Book 6, and unspecified attack magic to open cages in Tartarus.
Epel also uses unspecified attack spells again darkness summoned by Malleus during Book 7, though he struggles with his aim.

Like the other students Epel also creates magical fireworks during Glorious Masquerade.

Along with Sebek, Jade and Idia, Epel also imbues a plushie with magic during the Harveston sled race.
In Book 7 Epel says that he would like to become capable of magically changing his outfit without assistance, so it seems that clothing-change magic is something he has yet to master.
