(This is not a different interpretation of a Japanese-language word for forever/eternity: the original game is using the English-language word “Eternity.”)
Original Azul: Floyd, at least, had forgotten until yesterday when I brought up the overnight-stay request I approved 6 months ago.
EN Azul: Floyd, at least, had completely forgotten about said sojourn until I brought it up yesterday.
Original Riddle: At this rate there will not be enough attendees as required by the rules, and the ceremony will be ruined……you kept lamenting endlessly right in front of me while I was trying to study, so I had no choice but to agree.
EN Riddle: You kept moping in front of me about how the ceremony will be ruined because attendance is too low to meet rule requirements…until I grudgingly relented and agreed to go.
Original Game: Moray eels?
EN Game: Morays eels have legends?
For the curious: Georgina Leech refers to her sons as Jade-san and Floyd-san.
Jade refers to the students as his “best friends” in the original game, using a word (親友) that only four other characters have ever said:
・Kalim (about Jamil)
・Deuce (about the prefect)
・Cater (about Trey)
・Lilia (about Raverne)
Jade says “friends” on EN but he is actually one of the 11 characters who has never referred to any other NRC student as a friend (if the “best friend” word explained above is counted separately). His original dialogue is, “everyone.” More here ▶︎
In both the original game and on EN Rook gives a detailed explanation on how seagulls and black-tailed gulls are different:
Q: Why did Georgina dress him as a black-tailed gull when his nickname is seagull?
A: It isn’t, Floyd’s nickname for Rook (umineko) is “black-tailed gull.”
“Black-tailed gull” is umineko, which is literally “sea cat,” confusing Grim and leading to small dialogue adjustments on EN:
Original Grim: Hm? Isn’t that a seagull on that necklace? There’s no cats on it.
EN Grim: Huh? Those thingies on his necklace just look like regular ol’ birds to me.
Original Rook: No, this is a black-tailed gull. Black-tailed gulls are seabirds that quite similar to seagulls. A beautiful bird with colors just like this outfit: white from head to collar, with black backs and wings.
EN Rook: This is indeed based on the black-tailed gull— a beautiful bird that is white from head to collar, with black tailfeathers and wings. Though similar in appearance to their more common gull kin, what truly sets the black-tailed variant apart is its distinct mewing call.
Original Grim: A cat but a bird……I can’t tell which it is, and it’s all confusing.
EN Grim: What sorta bird meows? That’s just confusin’.
The original name of the Plaza is “Part in Plaza,” possibly meant as a reference to “Part of Your World.” This was changed on EN to, “Port Plaza.”
Jade suggests eating a light meal at a taverna, and the word “taverna” is pronounced identically in Japanese to the word “食べるな,” which means, “do not eat.”
Unfamiliar with the word “taverna” Grim assumes that Jade is telling him not to eat, in an interaction that needed to be adjusted for EN:
Original Grim: “Don’t eat”? No way!
EN Grim: Light? What am I, a plant?
In the context of prosciutto, a leg of cured ham with a bone is referred to as a “log” in Japanese. Jade mentions this to Malleus in an interaction that had to be adjusted for EN:
Original Jade: Yes. Also, a leg of cured ham with the bone still in it is called a log.
EN Jade: It is, yes. By the way, you might be interested to know prosciutto tastes different depending on the type of wood it’s smoked with.
Original Malleus: Indeed. Its smoky, darkened color is similar in appearance to the trunk of a great tree.
EN Malleus: Yes, I can see how that might result in subtle differences in flavor.
When Rook mentions owning several pairs of opera binoculars Riddle asks “Why……,” but this question was removed from his EN dialogue.
Originally Jade tells Riddle and Malleus to yell out FIGHT, FIGHT and GO GO! GO GOGO! as they row, changed on EN to the names of mushrooms: “Beech! King oyster! Lobster! Waxcap! White jelly!
The musical notes where removed from Malleus and Riddle singing, which is a normal change on EN.
The characters carry water guns during the event, which makes a comment on EN from Rook about continuing a “water barrage” a little vague, but in the original game he specifies that he is using water magic in maybe the first instance we have seen of Rook using water magic in the game (more here ▶︎).
