Floyd’s Dream

Malleus sends all of Sage’s Island to sleep in Book 7 so that they might enjoy “unending happiness,” and for Floyd this seems to manifest as a dream world where he never fails at anything no matter what he does, which he finds extremely boring.

Floyd explains that he left Azul and Jade in order to travel the world alone, becoming a successful model in the Shaftlands, a successful chef in the Sunshine Lands, and discovering a genie in a lamp in the Scalding Sands, which granted his wishes for a soda, gelato and local street food.

He refused an offer to sign an exclusive modeling contract with a brand because it sounded boring, and refused an offer to become a sous-chef in the popular restaurant because it was a hassle.

He traveled to Sunset Savanna, the Queendom of Roses and Briar Valley, but was bored by how weak everyone was when compared to himself, so he went to the sea, which proved to be just as boring as the land.

Idia explains that Floyd has become bored with the entire world. There is a fundamental mismatch between the system that Malleus provided and Floyd’s play style. But as Malleus’ dream is not a game that Floyd can quit, he has given up on playing.

In an attempt to awake Floyd, the others remind him of his failures on land, such as when he was blasted through the air by Riddle on the day of his orientation.

Darkness appears in the forms of Jade and Azul, who claim that Floyd will have more fun with them, together forever, which awakens Floyd.

Sebek observes, “He rejected the darkness’s enticements without any help!?”

Floyd says that the real Jade would try to hear the stories of his failures from start to finish, while the real Azul would never call land boring or talk about them being together forever.

Floyd is not very happy after he awakens, but he is amused by the realization that, in a dream, anything he wishes for will come true, and agrees to join the group in awakening Jade.
