Floyd Leech’s Unique Magic

Floyd explains that his unique magic Bind the Heart (hidden meaning: the Entwining Tail) “interferes” with a target’s magic, causing it to fail.

Azul explains, “it jams an opponent’s magic and diverts it elsewhere” when he borrows the ability from Floyd in Book 4, and this may be a more accurate description, as when Floyd uses it in Mostro Lounge’s VIP room he accidentally diverts the attack sent towards him onto Azul’s vault.

Azul says that he is always telling Floyd to not use it so carelessly, and the inability to rein himself in may be a theme with Floyd: he says that he used to get yelled at for passing too hard in basketball club, with Ace saying that he throws at “brutal speeds.”

In contrast, Azul applies Floyd’s unique magic with such precision in Book 4 that Jamil does not even realize that he has used it, but Azul has also said that he is fairly certain that no one has more magical precision than himself.

According to Jade, the spell does not work at all if Floyd is not in the mood.

Floyd seems ambivalent towards his own unique magic, telling Jade that he was aware of the risk of Azul refusing to return it to him in Book 4 but he did not care that much about getting it back.

In-Game Examples: We see Floyd use his unique magic against Ace, Deuce, Jack and Grim in Book 3, and Azul borrows is to use against Jamil in Book 4.

Floyd uses his unique magic twice against Azul in Book 7.
