Ace and Grim had a rough beginning, with Ace mocking Grim for being a “a monster nobody invited” and a janitor in the prologue.
They get into a magical altercation that results in damage to a Queen of Hearts statue.
When Ace refuses to accept Riddle’s apology in Book 1 Grim observes, “I ain’t never met anyone who was better at holding grudges than I am.”
It seems that they both fall asleep in class fairly often, and particularly Trein’s history classes.
The two now seem close, with Ace teaching Grim how to do a magic trick and protecting him from danger during the Stitch event.
Grim is affectionate towards Ace during Halloween after hearing that he and Deuce encouraged the ghosts of Ramshackle to arrange for costumes for himself and the prefect, nuzzling him in thanks.
Grim also mentions getting a souvenir for Ace (“If I feel like It”) during Glorious Masquerade, and for both Ace and Deuce during the Firelit Sky event.
Ace and Grim are often bickering, possibly because they have a lot in common: Grim backs Ace up gladly during Book 1 when facing down Riddle, they mock Vil together and are equally surprised by Deuce learning his unique magic before them in Book 5.
They join forces in mocking Deuce during and after Phantom Bride, and they both take a nap during Deuce’s Track and Field awards ceremony.
Grim also mocks Deuce during the Wish Upon a Star event.
Much like Ace and Grim, Deuce and Grim also seem to have certain points in common, such as not understanding things that others have explained to them.
Not understanding things that are being taught to him is a theme for Grim in particular, which we see him admit outright during events such as Port Fest and Vargas Camp when he is not able to follow conversations.
