Grim, Azul and Jade

Grim seems suspicious of Azul, calling him “real dastardly” (Azul: “I prefer to be called an intellectual”).

In a vignette Azul blackmails Grim into helping him and Idia with maintenance on Ortho.

Grim reacts with, “It ain’t my problem, so why should I go outta my way to make it my problem?” and Azul responds, “I was fully expecting this,” procuring a photo of Grim fighting with Lucius and making a mess of the teacher’s lounge (Grim blames Lucius for stealing his snack).

Grim changes his mind when Azul’s request is revealed to be dangerous (“You’d…get a blast of high-power technomantic energy to the face” – Idia), but he acquiesces when Azul adds a can of tuna to their deal.

Ortho reveals that the part that Grim retrieved could have purchased far more than a single can of tuna and Grim is displeased, but Azul explains, “We reached a perfectly amicable and mutually beneficial arrangement.”

During Glorious Masquerade Azul and Grim find common ground when they become equally absorbed in a tightrope walking performance.

Grim seems to have trouble telling Jade and Floyd apart from one another early on, asking Jade which one he is during Beanfest.

When Jade offers a strategy for the event Grim refuses to cooperate, saying, “Why do I feel like you’re tryin’ to pull one over on us? Well, forget it. I ain’t givin’ you squat!”Grim runs off during the Halloween party and eats all of the carpaccio off Jade’s plate.

Jade says, “Someone’s been a bad boy. Since I can’t have my carpaccio now, maybe I should have you instead?” but Grim is unfazed, saying, “that’s what you get for not watching your food.”

Grim instigates a snowball fight with Jade during Harveston, but he seems to have some lingering fear of the twins held over from Book 3, saying, “Just lookin’ at their faces makes me think back to when they were workin’ me like a dog.”

On the topic of what kind of activities take place in Jade’s Mountain Lovers’ Club, Grim says, “considering how intimidating the guy founding it is, it’s gotta be somethin’ scary.”

Grim says “you gotta watch out for (Jade),” citing how he is always smiling but “sometimes he says even more ridiculous stuff than Floyd.”

Floyd’s response to meeting Grim for the first time is wanting to “squeeze” him, which is a threat that Grim seems intimidated by. Grim says that he is always worried about the twins “schemin’ something” every time he sees them, and is not fond of Floyd’s nickname for him, saying that it makes him feel like he’s being insulted. (Floyd calls him Seal because he is round.)

Grim and Floyd overlap in a vignette where Grim accuses Floyd of throwing out a mushroom he found simply because he doesn’t like mushrooms. Grim picks up the mushroom from where it hit the ground and runs away with it, ignoring Floyd’s protests.

The mushroom is revealed to be poisonous.
