“Cater is bright, positive, reads the room, and is a good upperclassman to everyone. But at the same time he will step back and observe situations from a distance. So he has two sides: the cheerful, “Yay!” -type upperclassman side is more obvious, but he also genuinely considers the people around him.
He can seem a bit sharp or indifferent at times, but he has a passionate heart, a strong core, and is a truly charming character with striking contrasts.
One memorable part was Cater using his unique magic, ‘Split Card,’ to create clones. I recorded a different voice for each clone, each with different emotions. It was a lot of work, but thanks to the support of the other voice actors it was really fun to do.
Personally, I feel Cater is slightly different from myself. I’m shy and have to work to overcome it, so I admire his ability to get along with anyone. But the other voice actors tell me, ‘You’re a gyaru, so you’re perfect for Cater’ (laughs). I approach recordings with a Cater mindset.”

“People often tell me things like, ‘You’re such an extrovert,’ or ‘You give off a bit of a gyaru vibe,’ and I’m grateful when they say, ‘You’re a perfect fit for Cater.’
But in reality I’m actually shy, overly conscious of others’ reactions, and more on the introverted side. So acting as freely and effortlessly cheerful as Cater doesn’t come naturally to me.
Early in the game recordings I was often told, ‘You sound a bit stiff.’
From there I experimented with ways to relax and spent more time connecting with Cater’s personality, gradually deepening my understanding of him. Over time, through thinking ‘How would Cater act in this situation?,’ again and again, I finally began to grasp his lightheartedness.
After so many game recordings I think a kind of maternal instinct had started to emerge in me toward the characters (laughs). Toward Riddle and the rest of the dorm I began to feel like, ‘They’re my cute underclassmen I want to protect.’ So going back to the beginning, to portray Cater again when he was still in that ‘strategic maneuvering’ stage was honestly a little painful for me…
To voice Jamil Viper, Futaba Kaname-kun apparently participated in an animation recording for the first time in his life.
He told me, ‘My first line in the anime is just ‘Nn’.’ (laughs). Starting with a line that’s just a breath of air is quite rare.”

“At first I played him as someone who interacts with everyone equally without discrimination, but sometimes he looks at everyone with a cold gaze, and even when he’s cheerfully livening up the atmosphere it is probably because he just doesn’t want things to get troublesome.
As for the Housewarden, as he starts to seem to be becoming a bit dangerous, it’s not that (Cater) isn’t worried, but since smoothing out problems is his priority he doesn’t go so far as to try to actually fix things.
“The problems we hold deep in our hearts, even if we think we’ve resolved them, they can come back and attack us again. Just a small failure can trigger a flood of memories of past regrets or painful things, and it keeps you awake at night.
I used to be the type to overthink everything but then a senpai told me, ‘don’t think about unnecessary things,’ and now I strictly follow that rule. What’s done can’t be undone, so I try to wake up with the morning sun and think positively about what’s ahead. That kind of lightness is maybe an influence of Cater Diamond, too (laughs).”
