Malleus sends all of Sage’s Island to sleep in Book 7 so that they might enjoy “unending happiness,” and for Jade this seems to manifest as a dream world where he is visiting underwater volcanoes with Azul and Floyd, who are happily joining him in his hobby.
The dream-Azul burns himself on boiling water in an effort to acquire gold, as Jade encourages him.
Dream-Floyd looks different from real-Floyd and Ortho explains that it is an exaggerated image of how Jade visualizes him.
Jade reflects on how has he climbed every single mountain on land and is delighted by how Azul and Floyd are enjoying themselves, saying that they are to overcome every obstacle and conquer every mountain together.
Floyd interrupts Jade’s dream, nearly awakening him by saying that he does not eat live shrimp.
Dream-Azul assures Jade that real-Floyd is “more simple-minded and charming” and Jade agrees, saying that Azul and Floyd would be helpless without him.
Floyd starts to fight the entire group but Jade still does not wake up. Idia says that Jade’s dream may be of a pattern that they have not seen before: his imagination isn’t particularly strong, but he believes very strongly in himself, to the point that he doesn’t care what other people say and cannot be swayed by the opinions of others.
Floyd attacks Jade and the two get into a fight that even the dream versions of Azul and Jade cower from. Idia says that there is a real chance that they might lose both twins if they do not intervene, which Sebek does by invoking his unique magic.
This, combined with dream-Azul referring to him as a “precious subordinate” and dream-Floyd telling him to never go anywhere again, successfully awakens Jade.
Jade observes, “Floyd is never so docile. He’s far more unruly,” and, “Azul would never willingly expose himself to danger. He’d send someone else to do it instead,” but, more to the point, neither of them would ever join him on any of his mountain expeditions.
After Jade successfully banishes the darkness he and Floyd punch each other again, with Jade asking Floyd how he could hurt his beloved brother and Floyd saying he has no right to say anything after being unable to tell him apart from dream-Floyd.
Jade observes that his dream had been rather nice, with Azul and Floyd joining him on treks through a multitude of mountains, but it was likely only a matter of time before he lost interest in a world where everything goes according to plan.
