During the NBC event Sally comments that Jamil “put in a great amount of work,” saying, “He was working so hard, I hardly had any occasion to help at all.” Jamil follows with, “Yes, you can rest easy. Trey and I are taking full responsibility for all the preparations,” so this was possibly effort expended in order to keep Sally from cooking anything that the NBC group would have to eat, but Jamil also says, “I don’t consider hardship a virtue. But I do understand it can be part of the process that makes a jewel shine. Discovering the value of putting in the work to get what you want is part of being human.”
During the Tapis Rouge event Jamil says, “I feel like I have a better understanding of the Fairest Queen’s spirit of tenacity now. It makes me want to work harder myself,” and when told that he puts a lot of effort into his appearance he responds, “Some say you’ll give a better impression if you put effort into how you look.”
Jamil explains that, with magic, he only need to spend five minutes on his hair in the morning, “But it used to take a lot longer when I was still figuring things out. Half an hour, even up to two hours sometimes…But | just viewed it as magical training and kept at it every day.”
Jamil tells a story of his sister insulting his singing voice, which inspired him to “put in some work,” resulting in him improving to the point that he m”et Vil’s sky-high standards” for the VDC event.
Jamil has a Fairy Gala line about “impersonating a fairy” not being his first choice, but, “if that’s the course we’re set on, then I’ll see it through to perfection.” After being told that there is an issue with his dancing, with Vil asking, “Do you know what it is that you’re missing?,” Jamil refuses an offer from Ruggie to quit their group’s dancers, insisting on finding the answer to his problem himself, which he does, earning him praise from Vil.
Azul is Jamil’s judge for Master Chef and very complimentary of the range of colorful sauces that he prepares, saying, “I’d argue they’re the real stars of the dish!” Jamil says, “I suppose I did put the most effort into them,” and it is revealed that Jamil’s motivation came from a day he made lunch for the entire basketball team where they commented on the unappetizing lack of color. Azul declares, “What a touching display of hard work!”
When Jamil is told that he will be decorating and cooking a banquet for Crowley with less than 24 hours to prepare he goes to Trey for help, agreeing to “prune all of Heartslabyul’s rose bushes in return,” promising even more of his labor in order to properly complete a job he did not want to do in the first place (“I clearly got the short end of the stick in terms of workload here. He completely took advantage of me and my predicament”).
Jamil has clubwear voice lines of, “Maybe I’ll film myself practicing. It’s difficult to identify issues with my shooting form when I’m in the middle of everything,” and, “I’ve been practicing three-pointers a lot lately. I don’t need to be the highest scorer in the game, but you can never have too many weapons in your arsenal.”
