Jamil Viper’s Unique Magic

Jamil explains that his unique magic Snake Whisper (hidden meaning: The Snake’s Invitation) “simply allows control over a target’s will,” so it would be difficult for him to use it to extract very specific information, which differentiates it from Jade’s unique magic: “If done a certain way, I might be able to get a similar result, but that’s neither here nor there…”

In Book 7 Kalim tells a story about Jamil using his unique magic. While not specified, this was possibly the first time that Kalim had ever seen him use it, and the reason why Kalim knew what Jamil’s unique magic is back in Book 2:

Then there was the time the two of us got entangled in some trouble just before we enrolled in Night Raven. Remember that?
Your quick thinking got us out of that jam, when you used your signature spell to make the bad guys fight each other.
That’s the whole reason we made it home. It could’ve been real bad if you hadn’t been there.

Conditions: Similar to Jade, Jamil seems to require eye contact from his target in order for it to work, with Azul pointing out that, “seeing as plants don’t have eyes to look into,” Jamil’s unique magic would be ineffective against the fire lotuses during Glorious Masquerade.

Azul explains, “Spells that take over someone’s mind or controls their movements hinge on the target having a will in the first place.”

Mind Control Magic: Jade explains, “There’s also hypnosis magic that takes control of a target’s mind. But it requires a far higher degree of skill and magical power than its bodily counterpart. Which means very few magicians are capable of using it.”

Azul says that even he would be hard-pressed to control living creatures with their own egos, like humans.

When Jamil explains during the Nightmare Before Christmas event that his unique magic
“lets (him) control people who make eye contact with (him)” Skully exclaims, “Hypnosis magic?! You can use such sophisticated magic…?!”

In Book 4 Jamil mind-controls his entire dorm and forces them to perform separate tasks simultaneously, leading Azul to describe Jamil as “easily one of the top magicians in the entire school,” but it is possible that Jamil’s magic was being artificially enhanced at the time by his impending overblot and not clear if this is something he is always capable of doing.

Examples of Jamil’s unique magic in the game: Jamil uses Snake Whisper twice on the prefect and multiple times on Kalim throughout Book 4 and during Halloween.

He also uses it to sacrifice Noble Bell College students during Glorious Masquerade, on Neige to evacuate the stadium in Book 5, on a STYX staff member in Book 6 to guide them to the control room and to defeat the darkness of Malleus’ dream world in Book 7.

Side Effects: The use of Jamil’s unique magic may involve memory loss, with targets waking up in confusion about what they had been doing and how they got to where they are, with Kalim describing “blackouts” where “hours have passed” the next time he regains consciousness.

When Jade uses his unique magic on Kalim to learn the identity of the mage who is controlling him, Kalim says he knows the person’s name but has promised not to share it, possibly implying that he knew that Jamil was hypnotizing him.

Another side effect of Jamil’s unique magic is the target referring to him as “Master.”

A Noble Bell College student describes having his mind being overridden by Jamil as “It was like someone hijacked my consciousness…”

Jamil says that his unique magic causes its target pain until they submit, differentiating it from Jade’s unique magic, which Jade describes as painless.

While there has been an instance where Jamil’s unique magic appeared to wear off without his dismissing it (or perhaps it was dismissed off screen), in Book 6 Jamil cuts off the spell on his own.

This is another contrast to Jade’s which might naturally wear off much sooner, though it is possible Jade is dismissing it in a way that has yet to be shown on screen.
