Kalim and Parties

Kalim explodes the Scarabia dorm kitchen while attempting a school assignment and Jamil tells him that his homework is his priority.

Kalim disagrees, telling Jamil that Jamil is in charge of hosting and cooking a party that is being held that afternoon, and Jamil can “just make extra of whatever you’re whipping up for me anyway”, despite how Kalim also had a party the night before, as, “that’s what the weekend is for, Jamil.”

To Kalim’s confusion Jamil insists on canceling the party. Kalim visits each 2nd-year student individually to explain that the party is off, but Riddle had already declined the invitation and Azul hadn’t been aware of it (Silver is asleep). Ruggie refuses to forgive him (“What’re you gonna do about my calorie deficit?”), and helps Kalim make preparations in the school cafeteria.

At the end of the vignette Kalim explains that the party important to him because it was for Jamil: He’d wanted to give Jamil a chance to socialize more with their fellow 2nd years.

Despite this, he then asks Jamil to go to the kitchen and cook for him because “I’m the host of the party. The food is for everybody else to enjoy.”

Kalim joins the Culinary Crucible in order to learn more forms of hospitality and more ways to please guests. Kalim offers up parties as a solution to multiple problems, such as Eliza kidnapping Idia during Phantom Bride and the Magicam Monsters during Halloween.

When Cater invites him to a “Ring Around the Rosaria” party Kalim agrees to attend immediately despite not knowing what it is.

Cater tells Kalim that he is a heartthrob in addition to being rich. It seems Kalim is often throwing parties at Scarabia (Jamil asks, “Have you considered NOT throwing a party every other day?”) and in Spectral Soiree he decides to install a disco ball in the Scarabia lounge, to “line the walls top to bottom with glass cubes, cover all the couches and cushions in sequins” and “bedazzle it all!”

Jamil reacts with exaggerated fascination in response to Ortho’s explanation of how he can produce similar effects, saving Scarabia from Kalim’s whims.

During New Year’s Kalim says he will spend his paycheck from working at the school store on a party for those who told him about the job.

Jamil says “Kalim loves to invite people over without notice” so he is in a constant state of preparation as Jamil usually does the cooking, decorating and inviting on his behalf.

This leads to Jamil setting up his own birthday party as well.
