Malleus sends all of Sage’s Island to sleep in Book 7 so that they might enjoy “unending happiness,” and for Kalim this seems to manifest as a dream world where he is a second-year student at a magic academy built for him by his father, where he is attended by “a veritable army” of servants who do as he commands.
Idia observes, it is less so that Kalim has a strong imagination and more so that he is equally as rich in reality and does not care about details, which helps boost the strength of the dream.
When Vil questions if he is attending a different school because he is unhappy at NRC Ortho says that might not be the case, but people’s hearts and minds can be surprisingly complex. Idia guesses that the dream world has taken this route in order to avoid a tragedy that unfolded due to Kalim attending NRC and it is revealed that Jamil is also present in the dream, as Kalim’s best friend and someone who is able to ask Kalim to do things, which is the biggest surprise to the other characters.
Grim reminds Kalim about the time that Jamil sent them all to the ends of the dimension that holds Scarabia and the dream-Jamil uses his unique magic on Kalim, saying that his parents work for Kalim’s father but they have always been honest with each other and never cared about social status, in a reference to Kalim’s wish in Book 4.
Vil reminds Kalim of how Jamil has a “smoldering, hungry mindset,” which is the reason why Vil put him on main vocals for the VDC, saying that Jamil complains and is untrustworthy but Kalim still wanted to become friends with him despite how it would have been easier and more constructive to find other friends. Vil explains that Kalim’s defiance of logic, refusal to give up and insensitive positivity are what make him who he is and so fearsome, telling him to wake up.
Dream-Jamil tells Kalim that he is the one whom he trusts, awakening Kalim.
Kalim admits that Jamil only looks after him because Jamil is employed by his family to do so, not because they are best friends, and is upset by how he chose a version of Jamil that fits his own narrative, but Vil assures him that the dream was overly broad.
The group asks Kalim to go help them wake up Jamil and Kalim agrees, saying that it will be neat getting to wake up Jamil, as Jamil is usually the one waking him up.
