Kalim does not use honorifics with anyone (except the teachers), possibly because his status back home meant that he was simply never taught to defer to anyone, and/or because he confidently believes that he is on a first-name basis with everyone he meets.
He refers to first-, second- and third-year students—including Malleus—by their first names, with no honorifics.
During Culinary Crucible Kalim adds every single ingredient he has (“the more ingredients I use, the more everyone can eat throughout the party”) and the contents of multiple spice shakers.
The result is is a dish that even Ruggie struggles to eat (and Ruggie has stated before that he will eat anything that is not rotten).
In the end Kalim repurposes his creation into a new dish that receive Ruggie’s approval, saying that he intends to keep working hard to serve his guests an even bigger variety. (Ruggie tells him not to quit his day job.)
Kalim says that, while Beanfest is important he is more interested in using it as a chance to bond with more students on campus. Knowing this, Jamil comes up with a plan to remove him from the game early on, packing a campsite grill for Kalim to cook an aromatic, pre-prepared lunch to give away his location.
The plan succeeds and both characters get their wishes, with Jamil sending Kalim away to participate in Vargas’ weight training and Kalim putting it off until he is able to finish sharing his lunch with members of both teams.
Kalim seems to enjoy giving things away, and we see him gift Floyd with “a red stone that was said to have been kept along with a magic lamp in a certain cave” in exchange for a favor. Floyd says that Jamil didn’t seem happy about it. (That may have been a reference to the red gem seen in the Cave of Wonders seen in Disney’s animated “Aladdin.”)
Kalim also attempts to pay for a souvenir for Lilia that is meant to be from both him and Cater, but Cater does not allow it, saying “it’s not really a gift from me if you pay for all of it.” During the drama of Book 4 Kalim also offers to give a carpet to Jade for use in Octavinelle.
