Kalim seems aware that he can sometimes come across as pushy, saying, “My thinking’s always been that if I love something, I want to push other people to try it too!”.
Riddle says that Kalim has a pushiness that throws him off after Kalim insists on inviting him to a party even after Riddle says no multiple times.
Grim comments that there are times when Kalim doesn’t exactly respect others’ points.
We see this happen with Grim himself when Kalim force-feeds him cheese on crackers despite Grim’s refusal in a scene possibly inspired by Disney’s animated “Aladdin”.
Jamil says Kalim “won’t take no for an answer” about keeping a parrot in the dorm, and we see them argue about things like Kalim insisting on inviting Cater and Lilia to the Firelit Sky event (despite Jamil’s protests), Kalim preparing for a party (despite Jamil’s protests), Kalim waiting in a line on Jamil’s behalf (despite Jamil’s protests), Kalim insisting that Jamil lower the hood of his robes (despite Jamil’s protests) and Kalim insisting on arranging a parade (despite Jamil’s protests).
In a vignette Kalim admits outright that he “basically forced” Jamil to escort Sebek to Diasomnia saying, “We know his name and we’ve chatted. That makes us friends! And friends help each other out. If you won’t go, then I will.”
Jamil says that he has only been practicing dancing since he was a child because he had to tag along with Kalim when Kalim wanted to do it.
Kalim struggles with respecting Idia’s boundaries as well: he ignores Idia’s refusal to attend an impromptu meal of Jamil’s cooking, inviting Rook and Cater to join them while Idia silently reflects, “The extrovert’s triple tech: Coercion!…Why do they keep acting like it’s a done deal when I told Kalim no?”
Idia seems terrified of Kalim, literally dashing out of frame during New Year’s when Kalim approaches him on the street. (Idia concedes that talking to Kalim is simply a sacrifice he will need to make in order to get an Amazing Ticket from the school store.)
One of the few people we have seen capable of saying no to Kalim is Jade: Jade refuses to make an exception to the rules and allow Kalim to use his own money for Scarabia’s Halloween display. He is supported by Riddle, who says that Scarabia will not be exempt from the rules.
In a vignette where Kalim and Jade discuss tea together Kalim explains that “When it comes to tea, the sweeter the better.”
He uses 30 sugar cubes in a pot of tea and then leaves to go find more, as “this pot here isn’t really sweet enough.”
