Kalim’s unique magic is “Oasis Maker” (in Japanese: “Enduring Blessings”), and enables him to “expend a little bit of magic power to produce large volumes of the finest water”.
When Grim points out “there are plenty of other spells that let you conjure water…” Kalim says that “the point of Oasis Maker is its efficiency: it produces a lot using a very small amount of magic…back before the advent of running water, one would have had to draw their own water and boil it to sterilize it. A spell like mine would have been a tremendous boon back then. But I guess you’re right. Now that running water is a widespread service, it’s not the most useful of spells.”
Azul, however, is extremely impressed, saying, “Some countries don’t HAVE that sort of infrastructure. Your power would take you nothing short of a hero to those people…That’s…that’s ABSURDLY marketable!”
Jamil calls it a “little trick”, but Azul says that Jamil isn’t appreciating Kalim’s power for what it is.
Kalim has little overlap with Azul outside the main story: Azul compliments him on having an eye for quality (“I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that a wealthy heir would”) during Halloween. During Vargas Camp 2 Azul offers to help him find and carry wood for their campfire (Cater attempts to interject, but Jade distracts him).
Azul encourages Kalim to share the story of his help with the firewood with his family in order to establish a foundation of gratitude for his efforts, and Kalim assures him that not only will he be mentioning Azul he will also be telling everyone about Lilia, Cater and Jade, as well.
Kalim plays an important role in Fairy Gala, happy to join the event and bringing Jamil along. He comes across a sick fairy outside the event venue of the botanical gardens and helps her recover by sharing a medicinal he had on hand (Jamil is also always carrying potions and medicinal herbs for Kalim).
The fairy gifts each member of the group with translator bells in gratitude so that they are able to communicate.
After the event Kalim tries to assure the others that Leona played a significant part in the mission’s success, but neither Grim nor Ruggie believe him.
