Leona and Floyd are in a group together with Ace during Spectral Soiree, where Floyd chooses to take mirror fragments from ghosts by terrorizing them (“This is what I normally do to punks who don’t hold up their end of a deal”), resulting in the ghosts going invisible, frustrating Leona.
Leona tells Floyd he is a liability, with his inconsistent strength and unpredictability making him worth less than Ace, and Floyd counters with Leona serving better as bait (“It don’t matter how strong you are if you never DO anything”).
Ace defuses the situation and reflects, “These guys are like oil and water. I’d take the teapot tyrant any day!”
When the group discovers an area with “a buncha big machines” of unknown purpose, Floyd begins pressing buttons for fun. Leona sees a small box on a desk “ticking like a clock” with both a square and a triangle button and Leona orders the others not to touch it, saying it is a powerful magic artifact that will turn every living creature in the immediate area to stone, but it has already been activated and the need to push the button that will disarm it.
Leona tells a story from years ago about a Halloween party on a cruise ship that he attended with his family, saying,
“One of the guests was wearing this necklace that had a legendary sapphire in it, the Ocean’s Tear. A thief set one of these boxes in the band’s piano, as part of a scheme to steal the sapphire. I rescued the captain from the thief’s clutches, stole the getaway boat, and got all 5000 passengers safely off the ship. Finally, I had to deal with this device. I was about, hm…seven years old, I think.”
Ace asks if Leona gets “cool special training” as royalty, which Leona confirms, though even he struggled to figure out the right button until the last second. Leona says, “The square button is a trap…the triangle button disarms it,” and Floyd chooses to press the square button.
After they fail to turn to stone, Leona begins to laugh: “I can’t believe you took the bait and pushed the square button. You’ve got a LONG way to go before you can get one over on me.”
Floyd is not pleased by Leona’s “smug attitude” but admits that it was at least exciting, and leaves. Leona tells Ace, “I knew whichever button I told him to press, he’d hit the opposite.”
Ace asks, “So the part about it being a magical artifact was for real? And you STILL decided to play games with the buttons? For that matter, you told us a whole story about a fancy boat party, and how this box turns people to stone…just how much of that was actually true?!,” but Leona refuses to answer.
At the concluding Halloween Party of Spectral Soiree Floyd invites Leona to dance, saying he has heard that Leona “can really bust a move” (Leona: “Ruggie needs to stop openin’ his big mouth…”).
Leona says he is not the type to hold a grudge and what’s done is done, “and there’s no use gripin’ about it. But stay outta my sight.”
Ace agrees with Leona, blaming Floyd for terrorizing the ghosts in the first place, but Leona and Floyd come together to tease Ace about the dramatic battle line he used when confronting Malleus (Floyd: “Crabby gets an attitude sometimes, but who knew he could be so adorable?” – Leona: “I know just what you mean.”)
Leona and Floyd also manage to collaborate during Vargas Camp, teaming together with Ruggle to fight a mine monster.
Leona also overlaps with Jade during the Halloween party, who asks Leona about some trouble that Floyd might have caused him earlier on.
Leona says, “Trouble? Nope, not ringing any bells,” and apologizes for inadvertently getting on Floyd’s nerves. Jade presses Leona for information and we see a flashback where Floyd approached Leona during practice with the spelldrive team, saying, “I wanna go toe-to-toe with you when you’re at your best…lemme tag in on your next practice,” but Leona ignored him.
Leona has a voice line recommending that the prefect also ignore Floyd if he ever “tries to start somethin’,” but claims to Jade that ignoring Floyd had been unintentional, while apologizing again.
Jade explains, “Floyd has a certain admiration for strong people” but Leona responds, “I doubt l’d live up to his expectations,” and, “He didn’t cause any trouble for me in the slightest.” Jade says, “Floyd and I should both be grateful for your magnanimity.”
Epel describes Leona as everything he wishes he could be, “a caring kind of guy,” and Floyd responds, “That sure ain’t the Sea Lion I know.”
When Leona presents his dish for Floyd’s judgement during Master Chef, Floyd’s first response is, “Is that even safe? Or edible?,” and he possibly did not give Leona a very good grade, saying, “This texture royally sucks. That’s hilarious. I knew somethin’ was up the moment I stuck my spoon in for a bite. Panna cotta’s so easy, too. You just mix ingredients together and let it cool. How did you mess this up?”
In Book 7 we learn that Floyd once “got easily shut down” during a joint defensive magic lesson with the third-year students. Leona is mentioned by name with Malleus as Idia explains he saw Floyd go up against “a ton of guys (he’d) never want to tangle with, and subsequently lose.”
Floyd says that he once told Leona to give him a birthday present and Leona told him to take home sand from Savanaclaw.
