Leona and Ortho

Leona and Ortho overlap during the Star Sending event when Leona’s wish is “to eat lots of meat.” Ortho draws the conclusion that Leona must not be getting enough to eat and is possibly ill (“Is that why you were napping?”) and Leona responds, “….Yeah, that’s right. I’m real sick right now.But it’s the kind of illness you just gotta sleep off. So lemme get back to it.”

Ortho offers to examine him (“I’m equipped with the latest medical technology”) and when Idia says that Leona is trying to get rid of them Ortho responds, “I’m glad he’s not actually sick.”

Leona comments to Idia, “Your brother ain’t like you at all.”

Ortho has a voice line of “I tried to play a trick on Leona Kingscholar by tying up his tail, but he noticed me. I’ll do better next time!,” and Leona is possibly more patient with Ortho than he is with his fellow third-year students: while at STYX Ortho has Leona play a video game that he believes will be suited to him, but refuses to tell him why until he has already obtained a high score.

Ortho then explains that he wanted to test the game on Leona because he has seen videos of cats pawing at screens where the game was being played, and researcher tested it on lions, who reacted similarly: “You are a beastman with lion genes, Leona Kingscholar. So I predicted that if you played this game, you’d enjoy it and not get tired of it.”

Idia and Vil tease Leona about feeling “compelled” to keep chasing the Hydra in the game and being “beholden to his feline nature,” but Leona is comparatively kind to Ortho, saying, “They’re absolutely right. I’m beholden to my feline nature, so I get REAL sleepy during the day. I’d love to play more, but I know I’d conk out before long. Go ahead and let someone else play.”

(During Twst Fes 2023 Leona’s VA Umehara Yuuichirou played the same game from the app on stage in a reference to this scene.)

After Ortho explains his and Idia’s plans to reset the world and start a new game Leona says, “The world totally sucks as it is. But I don’t think your new one would be any more to my taste. So I’m gonna stick with this one. It’s less of a pain.”
