Leona Driving

Leona seems to have gotten his driver’s license at around the age of 16, saying, “I’ve always liked cars because they let ya get away on your own.” During the Cloudcalling event he drives what Lilia describes as “an off-roader,” possibly because, as Leona explains, “once you get out of the city, it’s just savanna. Which means everything’s off-road. It’s gonna get bumpy, so be ready for that.”

Both Lilia and Vil compliment Leona on his driving skills.

When asked where he goes when he drives around his hometown Leona says that he doesn’t really drive to go anywhere specific: “I drive just to drive.”

Vil comments on how he must be in it for the journey rather than the destination and Leona responds, “I guess. It’s a nice change of pace. Most of Sunset Savanna is uninhabited…No need to pick an end point. You can just drive, as long and far as you like. That’s one nice thing about a place like this. And while I’m drivin’, my mind is clear.”

Leona adds on that this feeling doesn’t apply when he is “saddled with a bunch of annoying baggage:” “Man, I love drivin’… alone. Never thought l’d have to do it with so many passengers.”

Later in the event Leona tries to get the group to take a bus to the festival so that he can drive himself alone (“You guys got on my nerves yesterday, so I need a break”), but Lilia and Kalim insist on joining him so that he will not be lonely, while Grim goes along because Kalim is always giving him food. (Vil: “Seems your message was not received.”)

At the end of the event, however, Leona reflects, “I guess drivin’ with loudmouth passengers once in a while ain’t so bad either.”

Due to Leona volunteering to drive “without any hesitation” Vil assumes that “driving must be a true passion of (Leona’s).”

We are shown a scene of Ruggie wishing that he knew someone with a car to help carry supplies for the spelldrive club back up to the school, and Vil accuses Leona of being too lazy to drive on Sage’s Island: “You don’t want people bothering you for rides! How horrid, pretending you can’t do something you’re fully capable of.”

But Leona says that he hasn’t been hiding anything: “If only I had access to a car on Sage’s Island, I’d happily drive all my fellow club members into town.”
