Leona Insulted (pt2)

Crewel also insults Leona during Fairy Gala, but Vil might insult him more regularly than any other character: he scolds Leona for walking “like some kind of ruffian,” says he has none of Kalim’s class and says his title of “prince” must be a mistake that must actually be “egg,” in a kanji-based joke.

Vil also teases Leona about playing a game popular with housecats (Jamil: “I don’t think Ortho meant anything by it, but these guys…They close in like sharks smelling blood in the water.”), calls him a “scheming slacker,” asks if he is “under some sort of curse that obliges him to be snide every time he opens his mouth?,” and says to his face, “Shows of arrogance from you are nothing new.”

When discussing Malleus’ failure to attend Housewarden meetings Vil turns the conversation onto Leona, saying, “This from the guy who sleeps till just before the meeting and needs someone to literally drag him out of bed,” and when Leona excuses himself abruptly from the school’s Halloween party Vil tells their guests, “Don’t let him bother you. You’ll find the rest of the student body aside from him quite gracious and well-mannered.”

Met with rude members of Savanaclaw Vil’s first response is to insult Leona, although he is not in the scene, saying, “Your handler is utterly incompetent.”

In an attempt to goad Leona into playing a game during New Year’s, Vil tells Jack he has the spirit of a fighter “unlike a certain housewarden who shall remain nameless,” and “if you’re so loath to lose, then I’ll not force you to play.”

In a vignette Vil asks Leona, “Do I rightly assume that as a prince, you’ve been taught that an inability to attend to yourself is somehow acceptable?,” calls him “little more than a fine prop to decorate (his) stage,” calls him ”repugnant,” and says the only thing he has going for him is his handsome face: “This is why I hate spoiled princelings!”

A running theme of the Cloudcalling event is Vil insulting Leona, and oftentimes apropos of nothing: Vil laughs aloud when told about Leona’s responsibility of teaching rules to others, and when Leona is arguing with Kifaji over Kalim’s participating Vil offers sarcastic running commentary about being “moved to tears” and Leona showing concern for Jack.

Upon their arrival in the city Vil tells Leona, “You might at least shut your mouth and not spoil the sights for the rest of us.”

When Leona is in a conversation with Grim about purchasing a hammock as a souvenir Vil comes in from the side to add, “No doubt inspired by your own penchant for naps.”

When deciding who will sit where in Leona’s car Vil says, “I wouldn’t sit up front if you paid me. I just want to enjoy the savanna scenery out the window. Having you next to me would spoil the view” (Leona: “I didn’t even ask you”).

When Leona takes off the cloak of his Lion Garb outfit for the first time Vill comments, “A shame it’s just for show, like everything with you.”

Vil also calls Leona lazy, and when Lilia comments on him being unromantic Vil follows with, “That’s Leona for you.”

When Leona reveals that the largest seat at the tournament is reserved for himself Vil says, “Rather takes the wind out of my sails,” and when it is revealed he is to be also watching the parade rather than participating Vil follows with, “Somehow even less wind in my sails now.”
