Leona, Sarcastic

Leona tells Malleus “It’s easy to say somethin’ without actually meanin’ it,” and we have many examples throughout the game of Leona being sarcastic: when Kalim says he hopes that Leona will enjoy Playfulland Leona responds, “I’m having so much fun just being with you guys, I could cry. In fact, I’ve already had so much fun, we may as well pack it up and leave now.” (Jack: “You and your blatant sarcasm…”)

Leona tries to get Idia and Ortho out of his room during the Star Sending event but telling them he is sick, tells a spelldrive club member that he was beside himself with worry for the people in the mine (after Ruggie sends him there), and he refuses to let the prefect and Grim stay in Savanaclaw in Book 3 saying, “No pets allowed in the dorm. They shed all over the place.”

During the battle to Malleus of Book 7 Ruggie comments that Leona seems to be enjoying himself, asking if he is taking the opportunity to “vent all (his) pent-up frustrations.” Jack asks if this is true and Leona responds, “I’m just hardening my heart to reluctantly strike down my dear school chum because of regrettably unavoidable circumstances. Oh, it’s just so horrid. I can feel the most terrible pang in my conscience.”

Ruggie says “You’re grinning from ear to ear. You don’t mean a word of that,” and Jack responds, “Sometimes you really blur the line between great and terrible.”
