Leona’s favorite food is listed as “meat” in his profile, and while he once mentions a meat pie (from Trey) specifically he seems mostly interested in any kind of meat in general, telling Ruggie, “I don’t care what it is as long as it’s got some kind of meat in it” and telling Idia “Give me meat. Any kind.”
Vil is not pleased by the barbecue that Leona arranges during the Cloudcalling event (“It’s ALL meat!”). Leona says, “Looks normal to me?”
Leona is one of the strictest judges for Master Chef—on par with Vil—but his ability to identify high-quality cuisine does not seem to mean that he is a picky eater:
In Book 7.5 Leona has two salisbury steaks in the school cafeteria.
Ruggie says that “Leona doesn’t care (what he makes) as long as it’s edible,” despite how he is a literal prince, and during the NBC event he does not balk at the idea of eating snakes, spiders, bats, rats or frogs.
Riddle rejects the idea of eating any such things “wholeheartedly” but Leona asks him, “Where’s your culinary curiosity?”
Leona’s Disliked Food: Vegetables
There is a comment in the game guide that Leona is a carnivore (“Round ears that face forward, as he is a carnivore”), and it seems this might be meant to be taken literally: Leona says “carnivores only eat greens when they’re physically ill” to explain his dislike of vegetables, and “Telling a carnivore to eat greens is like saying, ‘Hey, go give yourself indigestion.’”
Ortho seems to figure this out in Book 7.5 after Leona starts putting the vegetables that game with his lunch on Jack’s plate, saying, “Are lions unable to efficiently digest vegetables since you’re carnivores? That’s fascinating.”
Ruggie seems unaware of this, adding vegetables to Leona’s plate in a vignette (“Stop whining and eat them”), but Ruggie has said he will eat anything as long as it isn’t rotten so it is possible that he just does not understand the concept of dietary restrictions and/or is mistaking Leona’s issue for pickiness.
Leona orders a loco moco during the Master Chef event and approves of the hamburger patty and gravy, but says, “these vegetables just bring the whole thing crashing down. No points.”
When Rook forces Ruggie to confess Leona’s weakness in another vignette Ruggie responds that Leona’s weakness is vegetables: “If I didn’t heap ’em on his plate whenever we’re at a buffet, he wouldn’t eat any vegetables at all! And even when I do, he just makes the worst scowl while barely touching them.”
