Riddle and Flight

Jamil approaches Riddle about teaching him and Kalim how to fly (“Riddle: “I see you share Cater’s total lack of reluctance to pester me for favors”) and Riddle refuses, but does tell them that they are free to watch him, if they so wish.

Kalim is impressed by Riddle’s take off and Jamil narrates Riddle’s off-screen flight patterns, saying, “And then he adds those sharp turns and spins…His control is flawless. He never ceases to amaze. I doubt anyone in his class could best his flying.”

Kalim calls Riddle’s demonstration “amazing” but Riddle disagrees, as “a true mage simply excels in magic over fitness.”

Riddle volunteers to be the bait for firelotuses during the Glorious Masquerade event based on his flying abilities, refusing Deuce’s offer to stay behind with him as he does not need “an inexperienced, easily-distracted flier slowing (him) down.”

Riddle seems confident in his flight abilities. After being presented a special broom to use when flying before a crowd for his third birthday Riddle says, “To soar the skies is but a trifle. I shall treat everyone gathered here to a majesty like none they’ve seen before!” In his groovy art he is portrayed flying over the school upside down.

After repeatedly turning down an invitation to a banquet by Kalim, Riddle explains that he is too busy as he must see to his broom in preparation for flight class the following day. Kalim offers him a ride on his flying carpet and Riddle concedes, as “the experience could prove valuable for (his) own study of flight.”

Cater refers to Riddle as one of Heartslabyul’s spelldrive team’s “talented players,” possibly for his flight abilities.

Riddle himself says, “If you’d like flying advice, you should ask Cater, not me. He has a superb sense of balance.”
