Riddle says he has been receiving “specialized lessons” in magic by the age of three, but he cannot be certain that he ever had any special talent to begin with, saying, “My mother apparently went to every possible length to ensure l’d be an exceptional mage, starting from when I was in the womb.”
Idia confirms this after an analysis of Riddle’s abilities, saying that Riddle must have “had special training from a super young age. Like a sports pro who has practiced their whole life. And that artificially increased his pool. It’s the only possible explanation for these numbers. His strength is from hard work rather than being some kind of prodigy, if you ask me.”
Riddle says he has been doing “simple” tasks like putting away books and changing his clothes with magic since at least the age of five.
Trey mentions a time when they were children and Riddle used magic to get a stuck soccer ball out of a tree.
Riddle seems partial to flame magic, using it in battles during Spectral Soiree, Book 6, Phantom Bride and the Stitch event. He also uses magic to make fireworks and blast fire lotuses during Glorious Masquerade.
Jade compliments Riddle on the remarkable potency of his spells.
Riddle “chain casts” three separate elemental attack spells in Book 7 (fire, ice, lightning) at “maximum destructive power.” Ortho explains:
It’s not just his quick casting that makes him so strong! It’s his confidence in his own reserves, plus a keen intelligence that lets him immediately discern my role and employ an optimal approach for neutralizing my threat. He’s good!
To prepare for the cottage Grim mentions using magic to cut down trees and levitate them, but it is unclear if every member of the group (Riddle, Floyd, Jack) is performing these exact same tasks.
Riddle uses magic to summon his magical pen, change into his dorm uniform and enlarge his cape during Book 6.
He uses magic to deflect an attack during Phantom Bride and both uses a barrier and conjures light during Book 6, also blowing open the cages that house the Phantoms in Tartarus.
Riddle uses another barrier during the Rapunzel even in order to protect the library from paint.
During a Lantern even rhythmic Riddle seems to use magic to levitate lanterns, send up a signal and move a boat.
Riddle uses fire magic to light lanterns, and cuts his hair with magic afterwards.
He mentions using magic to relocate a book in the library in what is possibly a reference to levitation.
We also see him levitate the Thunder Spear during Book 6, and he uses magic to prop up wood at Lilia’s request during the Stitch event.
Also during the Stitch event Riddle uses unspecified attack magic to attack Gantu.
Riddle uses unspecified attack magic again during the Eternity Float event and Malleus comments that his spells are less accurate than usual, possibly due to his unsteady footing as he is standing in a boat at the time.
Riddle prepares a final attack spell (“This next one will finish you! I’ve got just the spell to —”) but he falls into the water before he is able to fire it at Jade.
Riddle uses magic during the Rapunzel event in order to break Kalim’s fall when he falls from a window.
During the Eternity Float event Riddle uses wind magic to clear away fog, move floating barrels over water and “like a retrothruster” to stop his boat after Jade begins moving it with wind magic of his own.
Riddle uses his magic to do laundry in the school library, and to move chairs to block other characters from escaping him during the Nightmare Before Christmas event.
