Riddle, Self Confident

In Book 7 Riddle attacks Ortho and Deuce directly with magic-based attacks and Ortho observes, “It’s not just his quick casting that makes him so strong! It’s his confidence in his own reserves…plus a keen intelligence,” and Riddle’s self confidence comes up again during the fight against Malleus: Riddle asks Azul, “Have you realized you’d be no match for me?” and Azul responds, “Such overconfidence could lead to one’s downfall, if one isn’t careful.”

But, Riddle explains, “Overconfidence has nothing to do with it. My faith in myself arises from the simple fact that I’ve put in the work every day and continue to improve.”

When Riddle sends Cater and Trey away to lead the members of their dorm to safety at the end of Book 7 they tell him not to do anything dangerous (“PLEASE don’t make us worry than you already have!”) and Riddle responds, “Who do you think you’re talking to?”

When Riddle volunteers to tutor Cater on a spell formula that he, as a second-year student, has not actually learned, Trey asks if he is sure he’s up to it. Riddle responds, “Who do you think you’re talking to? I’m the Heartslabyul housewarden.”

When Silver comments on how their team will need to gather ingredients over again if they fail to make a potion during Vargas Camp Riddle similarly responds, “Who do you take me for?,” and he makes another similar comment during the Ghost Marriage event, asking a worried Epel, “Just who do you think I am?”

Riddle is similarly confident in his own abilities during the NBC event, acknowledging that other members of his group dispersing ghosts had been a help, but it is not as though “even an army of ghosts would last a second against me, of course.”

When Vil observes that Riddle sounds as though he considers himself “a cut above” the rest of his dorm, Riddle responds, “Of course I do.”

Riddle says in an interview that he would transfer to Diasomnia because, “Diasomnia is home to a great many students with outstanding magical prowess, Malleus being the obvious example. So I would fit neatly among their ranks, wouldn’t I?”

While preparing to fly after his Bloom Birthday interview Riddle declares, “To soar the skies is but a trifle. I shall treat everyone gathered here to a majesty like none they’ve seen before!”

During the Eternity Float event Riddle tells Rook that he will “see even more gallantry from (him)” at the ceremony, and when he beats Ace and Deuce in their duel of Book 1 he declares, “That was all you had, and still you thought to challenge me? You must be utterly humiliated.”

While in a room with powerful upperclassmen such as Vil and Leona, Riddle refers to himself as “one of the foremost mages here.”

When Azul urges caution about the unknown and unpredictable phantoms of Tartarus in Book 6 Riddle asks, “Do you think I’d be thrown by such petty attacks?,” and Azul responds, “Your confidence is admirable, but we haven’t been trained to fight Phantoms.” Despite this Riddle later tells him, “Don’t worry. I’ll hit whatever’s in there before it can hit us,” “I’m glad working together has shown you how capable I truly am,” and assures him in a separate conversation that he gets perfect marks no matter where he starts on tests.

When Azul tells Riddle, “One moment of inattention, and you might find me giving the valedictorian speech at graduation,” Riddle responds, “I’ll continue to stand at the fore as long as I’m in school-and after it as well. I won’t lose to anyone, ever. Not even you.”
