Ruggie and Jade (pt1)

Jade and Ruggie overlap in a vignette where Ruggie accidentally uses herbs that Jade had foraged in the mountains in a soup for Leona, mistakenly believing that they had belonged to the school.

Ruggie apologizes (“We both know that there are consequences for borrowing from Octavinelle!”) and volunteers to teach Jade some of his recipes to compensate for what he used.

Ruggie says that he knows maybe thirty recipes that he could use with the ingredients Jade has foraged and teaches him how to incorporate them into a marinade, a sautê and an omelet, impressing Jade.

When Jack and Ruggie ask Jade where Leona has gone to during Tsumsted as they have lost his scent Jade assures them that he will follow up if he finds him, but Jade, in fact, knew where Leona was the entire time: he says he does not deny that he is enjoying the sight of the Savanaclaw students in chaos.

It was Jade’s tsum who massaged Leona to sleep in the botanical gardens, hid him beneath a tarp and crushed mushrooms to mask Leona’s scent, with Jade alongside it the entire time.

Jade decides to go back to the botanical gardens in order to put Leona in his debt, but Ruggie and Jack reveal that they have overheard his plot.

Ruggie explains, “Call it instinct, but I had a hunch you were hiding somethin’, Jade. And judging from your shameless reaction, I was right on the mark.”

Ruggie and Jack decide to “have a nice, long chat” about the situation, while Jade is left to wonder if his tsum had planned to turn on him from the start.
