Ruggie and Jade

Jade and Ruggie overlap in a vignette where Ruggie accidentally uses herbs that Jade had foraged in the mountains in a soup for Leona, mistakenly believing that they had belonged to the school.

Ruggie apologizes (“We both know that there are consequences for borrowing from Octavinelle!”) and volunteers to teach Jade some of his recipes to compensate for what he used.

Ruggie says that he knows maybe thirty recipes that he could use with the ingredients Jade has foraged and teaches him how to incorporate them into a marinade, a sautê and an omelet, impressing Jade.

When Jack and Ruggie ask Jade where Leona has gone to during Tsumsted as they have lost his scent Jade assures them that he will follow up if he finds him, but Jade, in fact, knew where Leona was the entire time: he says he does not deny that he is enjoying the sight of the Savanaclaw students in chaos.

It was Jade’s tsum who massaged Leona to sleep in the botanical gardens, hid him beneath a tarp and crushed mushrooms to mask Leona’s scent, with Jade alongside it the entire time.

Jade decides to go back to the botanical gardens in order to put Leona in his debt, but Ruggie and Jack reveal that they have overheard his plot.

Ruggie explains, “Call it instinct, but I had a hunch you were hiding somethin’, Jade. And judging from your shameless reaction, I was right on the mark.”

Ruggie and Jack decide to “have a nice, long chat” about the situation, while Jade is left to wonder if his tsum had planned to turn on him from the start.

After Ruggie explains the efforts he would go to during Halloween in order to earn more candy for the children in his neighborhood Jade says, “I realize now that you are quite a bit more kindhearted than you appear, Ruggie. I had assumed you were the sort to only put in effort if it somehow benefited you in the end.”

Ruggie responds, “I’m just gonna pretend I didn’t hear that.”

When Jade expresses interest in Ruggie’s grandmother’s recipe for pumpkin pie, Ruggie says Jade will have to pay him for it.

In Kalim’s lab wear vignette Ruggie has Kalim purchase one of the three greatest delicacies that exist: an icicle mushroom. This is possibly the same mushroom that Jade raised himself in the botanical gardens and traded to Sam for a weapon during Beanfest.

Ruggie seems repeatedly suspicious of Jade’s sincerity during Spectral Soiree (Ruggie: “…are you REALLY concerned?” – Jade: “The idea of this being incredibly amusing never even crossed my mind.”)

Jade is Ruggie’s interview for his second birthday vignette, gifting him with expensive laundry detergent. After asking what dorm Ruggie would transfer to Jade says “I’m sure you’d secure a plum position at the Mostro Lounge in no time,” but Ruggie responds, “And let you and Azul run me ragged? Yeah, no thanks.”
