Ruggie and Jamil (pt1)

Jamil and Ruggie mostly overlap during Glorious Masquerade, where Jamil says that Ruggie’s costume has “a certain shrewd, calculating air that suits (him) nicely.” Ruggie responds, “Gee, thanks for the backhanded compliment. I could say the same thing about your outfit.”

Ruggie chooses to go with the bell tower group rather than into the town with Trein when the students decide to confront Rollo, saying, “More human shields-ah, I mean, the more people there are, the better my odds of survival are,” and Jamil responds, “Exactly what I expected from you, Ruggie. You never disappoint.”

This comment seems to inspire Jamil: he and Ruggie get cut off from the rest of the group at Noble Bell College, with Ruggie sending the others away by saying “This is no time to get hung up on worthless stuff like honor or team spirit!”

Ruggie apologies to Jamil for being a “middling made” but Jamil responds, “I’m glad it’s you and not someone else” and “You won’t care what dirty tricks we pull, right? I have an idea…”

Jamil and Ruggie then proceed to lure firelotuses that pursue them towards unknowing Noble Bell College students, even using their unique magics to get the students to fight against the flowers in their place so that they can save their energy for running away, leaving their human shields behind to buy them time.

Ruggie observes, “If any of the other pampered goody two-shoes on our team heard that, they’d faint in horror” and Jamil responds, “I wouldn’t say that to just anyone. Besides, it’s like you said before. The more human shields, the better.”
