Sebek spends the entirety of the Spectral Soiree event stressing over Malleus, even accusing Rook of being “in league with the mastermind behind this” and actively trying to attack him for being “abnormally calm”.
Rook defuses the situation by sharing a story about becoming stranded in a jungle as a child, leading Sebek to declare, “That makes us brethren!”, as he, too, was forced to survive in the wild when he was younger as a part of Lilia’s training.
When Rook explains that he is actually very anxious and only seems calm because he is with Trey and Sebek, Sebek announces “We shall overcome this adversity together!” as Rook had “recognized his strength to such a degree this whole time”.
Sebek has similarly little patience with Deuce, mocking him for the actions of the ghost that had possessed him and deciding to strike out on his own, calling the rest of the group “absolute weaklings” and saying they “cannot stand around and wait for one puny human to recover”.
Deuce realizes that Sebek is “feeling helpless” because “the people you usually depend on aren’t here”, but Sebek denies this, as, “Unlike the rest of you carefree lads, I have a vital duty to fulfill—being a guard!”. Trey manages to convince him to stay with the group by saying, “It’s always better to have more soldiers guarding the king” and both Rook and Trey encourage Sebek to depend upon them in the absence of the other members of Diasomnia.
Sebek insists that “I can handle things perfectly well on my own” but he agrees to remain with them as “I’m sure the three of you would be helpless without me. As a guard to my liege, I’m surely capable of protecting a mere handful of humans!”.
Having to battle a (presumably) possessed Malleus becomes an issue for Sebek, who struggles with his need to protect Malleus while acknowledging that they need to fight to save him from the ghost whom they thought had overtaken him. At the end of the event Rook and Trey describe Sebek has having “tears running down his face” and being “delighted” when he is finally reunited with Malleus.
They even compliment him on his actions in the spectral realm with Trey saying “You did good today” and Rook saying “I was highly impressed by your conduct”. Sebek reacts awkwardly to the compliments (with Rook saying, “You’re so honest in your reactions, it makes you fun to tease”), but then insists that they are the ones deserving of praise.
