Sebek says that there are five people at his home, including his older brother–an NRC alumnus–his older sister, mother and father, while his grandfather lives nearby.
Sebek says that his grandfather moved to Briar Valley from Sunset Savanna.
Lilia says that Sebek’s grandfather is “hot blooded” and he is “old friends with Sebek’s grandfather”, whose name is Baul.
Sebek says his grandfather lives near their home and he would often visit him by himself or with his siblings and that his grandfather smiling was “a rare sight indeed in the Zigvolt abode.”
Sebek also says that his “grandfather was a gallant royal guard who served the king of Briar Valley”.
Sebek says he is proud of his mother, describing her as “an amazing person” who is “highly proficient with magic, which has earned her distinction from a very young age. She’s also strongly principled and unbending in her convictions. I can feel my chest swell with pride every time I see her. What’s more, she has some of the most potent occlusal force in our family—ah, that is, biting strength. It’s a Zigvolt trademark.”
He also says that, as a fae, she looks younger than his father despite being older in age.
Sebek has less interest in his father, describing him as “just a human” who “runs a small yet busy dental clinic” that he seems to enjoy. He says, “I’ll be the first to admit he’s an odd one. I can’t fathom why Mother chose to wed HIM, of all people…”, but does admit that his father is highly regarded for his skill with dentistry. Sebek says that his mother assists at the clinic but “her work tends to be slopping” as “she’s not particularly suited to work involving minute details. But my father never gets angry with her. They always seem happy working together…I suppose he’s magnanimous, in his own way”.
He says his father is a “strange man who chooses to live in Briar Valley despite being magically deficient. Whenever my siblings and I use magic, he gushes, ‘Wow, that’s so cool!’. It’s downright off-putting. He buys me sweets and snacks I never asked for and is always bending my ear about this and that. The man never lets his smile fade, no matter what I say to him. He defies comprehension. From what I hear, my mother met my father at a dental clinic and was so taken with his talent and personality that she courted him quite ardently. There were many among her peers who opposed her marriage to a human, but she didn’t let that deter her in the slightest. Certainly she must have seen SOMETHING in him.”
When Trey asks if Sebek does not get along with his father Sebek responds, “I wouldn’t say that. His smile simply irks me to no end,” and changes the subject.
When Trey reminds Sebek to brush his teeth Sebek says, “Talking to you reminds me of my father in a most unpleasant way.”
Trey gives Sebek dental floss for his birthday. Sebek says that it is the same brand that father gave him in bulk.
In his second birthday vignette Sebek again says that Trey reminds him of his father: “They do both wear glasses…But more to the point, their general demeanor strikes me as somewhat similar. No matter what I say to him, he always speaks to me in a calm and unperturbed manner.”
Sebek says that nature reminds him of his home and that he used to go camping with his family, catching fish at the riverside, and his parents or older siblings would often take him to a local park to play.
It seems that where they live now is in a different location from his human father’s hometown, as he references traveling there as a child and seeing an opera.
Sebek will occasionally reference his childhood, saying that he used to chop wood all the time back home and “it was an effective method back when I didn’t have much proper training equipment.”
Idia updates Marja’s wood splitter to the point that she is no longer capable of using it andSebek says he can sympathize: “Back when I first left my homeland of Briar Valley, I found myself similarly flummoxed. Useful machinery is the same as magic—even if you have it, you can’t master it overnight.”
Sebek declares that neither he nor Malleus are so “craven” that they require the aid of mechanical contrivances. (Ortho says, “Most people from Briar Valley are tech-challenged…”)
Sebek tells Ace about a traditional event in Briar Valley where people compete to change the color of a dress, saying that his older brother and sister brought him to watch it when he was young and he was captivated by what he saw.
