During Spectral Soiree Silver comes to respect Jamil extremely, wholly oblivious to how he is being used: Jamil attacks ghosts for their mirror fragments rather than search a nearby canyon for their own as Silver recommends, and Silver cautions him against attacking others at random.
When they happen upon the ghosts again Silver assures them that they won’t attack, offering to return their dropped mirror shards in exchange for their help.
Jamil interrupts to steal the fragments that the ghosts have been collecting, revealing that he let them go the first time so that the ghosts would collect more shards on their behalf.
Silver says, “Jamil…it’s wrong to take other people’s things. We should give the fragments back”, and Jamil uses Silver’s desire to save Malleus as leverage to convince him that they are merely borrowing the shards until they all reunite together at the Halloween party.
Silver relates their situation to a story that his father once told him and says “Maybe the lesson there is that sometimes we have to make hard decision for the greater good. Is that what you’re trying to tell me, Jamil?” Jamil responds, “I see you’ve learned yet another valuable life lesson from your hero.”
As Silver regales him with increasingly unlikely anecdotes about his father and from his childhood Jamil insists that he continue with a story that gets interrupted by ghosts. Silver responds, “It’s not really that interesting…Wait, Jamil…are you trying to get to know me better, like you were with the hero tale? You must think Jack won’t be comfortable working with us otherwise. Another example of Scarabian foresight. Your thoughtfulness has amazed me yet again…scaring the ghosts, letting those with low morale escape, thus avoiding necessary fights…this was a fantastic idea. Your ingenuity is quite impressive, Jamil!”
Towards the end of the event Silver thanks Jamil for his knowledge and insight, saying that it was thanks to Jamil that they were able to find Lilia and Malleus. Silver even insists upon presenting Jamil to Lilia directly, saying “Jamil stuck with me through thick and thin. He’s clearheaded and has a keen eye for detail. I relief on him so much during our journey.”
Jamil, in turn, compliments Silver’s honesty and strength, though he whispers that he is only saying as much because he would hate to leave himself in some kind of moral debt.
During Jamil’s third birthday vignette Silver expresses amazement at how Jamil is always so considerate of others and that their respect for their parents is something they have in common. Silver and Jamil overlap again during Culinary Crucible when Jamil serves as the judge for Silver’s cooking.
Silver reveals he used a pressure cooker so as not to fall asleep during the process. After trying his stew Jamil says, “It’s hard for me to say how much of that was your versus the pressure cooker, but it was certainly acceptable”.
Accepting the judgement as not an abject failure but also not a complete victory, Silver says that he just has to practice more moving forward.
