Silver has an emotional breakdown to Malleus in Book 7, explaining his adoration for Lilia: “Father is fae. I’m human. I’m not related to him by blood, and there’s no other reason for him to be responsible for me. Yet he took me in…barely anyone in Briar Valley knows how to care for a human. And Father lived alone there.I can only imagine how hard it must’ve been for him to raise a human baby with no one to turn to for help…”
Silver says that he can never thank Lilia enough and was ready to spend the rest of his life repaying him, but Malleus suggests that Lilia might be feeling much the same way, and possibly believes that Silver “shouldn’t have to spend part of (his) fleeting human life looking after a feeble old man.”
When they return to Diasomnia Silver denies that he has been crying, and tries to protect Lilia from the overblotted Malleus.
Sebek points out that when Lilia manages to awake from his dream it will be to die, but Silver insists, “He’d want to anyway. I know Father would advise against what Malleus is doing right now.”
After Sebek goes to bed Silver admits that he wavered for a moment, and started to believe that staying in Lilia’s dream would mean that Lilia and Malleus could both be happy.
One of the first things that Lilia says Silver’s group when they appear in his dream is that they have a nocturnal fae’s blessing upon them (possibly Lilia’s own blessing on Silver), and Silver seems to recognize Lilia immediately.
