In Lilia’s dream he gives Silver’s group a final opportunity to leave before they reach the citadel and Silver refuses. Lilia says they have no reason to involve themselves any further and Silver responds, “I have reason enough! After all, I’m your…”
Silver gets nearly caught in a trap set for the fae inside the citadel but he is saved by Lilia (“Told you…’m not…your father…”)
When Baul asks why he would do such a thing Lilia responds, “When I saw Silver in danger, my body sprung into action.” Silver silently reflects, “even in a dream…you’re still my…”)
Baul orders Silver and Sebek to surrender to the enemy in order to possibly spare their lives but Silver refuses, saying that he might have died if it were not for Lilia and he owes him his life: “I need no other reason. Humans, fae…those distinctions don’t matter to me.”
While searching for brooms Silver’s group happens upon terrified cooks who seem to think the fae are there to kill them, and while Silver acknowledges that they must seem like enemies from their perspective, he still asks for their help.
The cooks agree to show them where the brooms are kept, though they wonder if they are siding with the fae because they are being threatened.
The cooks also prepare food for the group and Silver recommends that they remain in hiding until the fae have left, apologizing for the fright they have caused.
Silver and Sebek then insist on clearing a path through the siege of silver owls for the injured fae soldiers to escape, much to Lilia’s disapproval, but he tells them they did well after their plan succeeds.
Silver then produces the food that the cooks prepared for them, and while the remaining fae soldiers seem uncomfortable with accepting provisions from humans Lilia encourages them to “eat it, and be grateful.”
When Maleanor begins striking Lilia with lightning to force him out of the castle Silver physically intervenes, earning him a lightning strike from Maleanor in response. Silver begs the two to stop, saying, “Why must you fight when you care for each other so much?!”
