Silver and Lilia (pt5)

Silver says that he used to struggle with flight because he was so used to brooms being things that walked around his house on their own.

Silver explains that he thought brooms and mops and buckets were actually living things that people treated as mere objects, which made him sad.

Later he learned that Lilia was just animating them with magic.

Silver says that it is pretty standard to use magic for things like chores in Briar Valley, but he hadn’t made the connection between magic and the animated brooms because he did not have any magic of his own at the time and he and Lilia lived far away from the nearest town: “I hardly saw the townsfolk and had no idea what their daily lives were like.”

In the main story Silver says that he has never been to the royal capital but this might conflict with Lilia’s Halloween vignette where Malleus and Silver seem to describe the same event on the same night in the same place: a plaza near the castle.

Silver says that he was amazed by how brightly light everything is at NRC after the sunsets, as it was “pitch dark” in the woods where he grew up.

Silver also does not speak or understand any fae dialects despite Lilia’s attempts teach him, which Sebek explains is because human ears have too narrow a hearing range.

Lilia and Silver relate a time from when they lived together and Lilia would recreate trick-or-treating for Silver by having him knock at their own door for treats over and over again, saying, “(Silver) would laugh and laugh no matter how many times we did it.”

Both Silver and Sebek describe a Halloween ten years ago when “an unbelievably sinister aura” rose from Lilia and “children and adults shuddered in fear and raced to their homes to wait out the nightmare”.
