The Chief Engineer’s Voice Actor Tange Sakura

Tange Sakura explains that she had been self-conscious as a child, as her friends and teachers would tell her that they could always tell where she was by the sound of her voice.

She says she did not consider voice acting as a possible career choice until her final year of high school. After graduating she moved to Tokyo, attending a junior college and a voice-training academy simultaneously.

She explains that she worked part-time jobs to earn enough money to pay for the academy by herself, keeping it a secret from her parents, because working as a voice actor was unusual at the time.

At 18 years old, however, she was still considered a minor, so the academy reached out to her parents to confirm her registration. As her parents did not know very much about voice actors she told them that she wanted to become an announcer.

They approved of her attending the academy simultaneously with her other schoolin, and she explains that it was later revealed that her mother had always wanted to be an announcer herself, so she may have unintentionally struck a chord that resulted in her earning her approval.  ( Interview Source )
