Trey explains his love of candied violets at length in his first birthday vignette, saying that before he started elementary school he was apparently amazed by the concept of edible flowers.
Trey says, “I like the taste, of course…but I also love when the violet aroma overtakes my senses. It’s like I’m lying in a bed of flowers. That’s the real appeal to me.”
He says that he used to snack on them all the time when he lived at home, and to this day his parents will send them to him: “I like munching on them during study breaks.”
Trey’s Disliked Food: Mustard
Trey’s dislike of mustard comes up as early as his first birthday vignette, where he explains the reason why:
One time, Chenya and I decided to test our luck with a little game. We had six cream puffs, and one contained mustard. I’m sure you can guess the rest—| drew the short straw. We didn’t have any water, and Chenya was just laughing nonstop…I seriously almost cried.
In a Master Chef voice line Trey says, “I hear your tastes can change as you grow older. I tried mustard for the first time in years, but I guess I’ve…yet to acquire that particular taste.”
In his Platinum Jacket vignette Trey explains a time he tried to overcome his dislike of mustard, but went about it the wrong way.
When Leona asks if he could just not eat it, instead, Trey says it is too troublesome both to himself and the chef to ask for mustard to be removed from everything he eats in the cafeteria, and he feels that would be rude to mask the flavor of a dish that someone else has made for him.
Trey’s solution was to try and force himself to get over his aversion, putting mustard in at least one dish every day for a week, and almost even putting it in cake.
He says his dormmates refusing to let him add it to the cake is what made him realize that it would be okay to give up if he had already gone to such lengths without success (“Once I start obsessing over something, I tend to get a little too carried away……”).
While he still dislikes mustard Trey says that, thanks to that week of effort, he is now able to eat dishes with mustard in them as long as it is only being used as a light accent.
In the Magical Archives Game Guide, Trey’s official eye color is listed as, “mustard.”
