Twisted Wonderland Novel Prefect vs. Game Prefect Comparison: Book 1 (pt1)

Game-Prefect and Yuuya’s reactions to Ace’s tart-stealing story are similar, with both Game-Prefect and Yuuya saying that he will certainly be forgiven if he apologizes.

When Ace unilaterally decides that the prefect will be going with him to apologize Game-Prefect can respond “Fair enough” or “Oh, I got this,” which are both different from Yuuya’s reaction of “Do you need me? Won’t you be okay by yourself?” and narration of, “He would have preferred not to have anything to do with it, but with Ace pestering him, it didn’t seem like he could really say no. When he begrudgingly agreed, Ace laughed.”

When Grim says that Heartslabyul is nothing like their “dumpster of a dorm” Game-Prefect defends Ramshackle, with options to say that it is a work-in-progress or “Comparisons will only make you more miserable.”

In contrast Yuuya seems to agree with Grim, saying, “It’s almost absurd to even compare them.”

While Game-Prefect does have the option of saying “It’s a pleasure” upon meeting Cater for the first time, they can also call him superficial.

Yuuya’s literal response to Cater is not specified, with the novel saying that he, Ace, Deuce and Grim introduced themselves.

The scenes where Grim runs away before lunch in the game (leading to a rhythmic) and where Grim gets into a fight in the cafeteria (leading to a battle) do not exist in the novel, so there is no Yuuya-equivalent to Game-Prefect’s dialogue of “Then you’ll never become a great mage,” “You’re making a scene,” “What happened to no more incidents?” or “I guess this is my life now *sigh*”

After hearing the names of the dorms for the first time Game-Prefect has the options to respond “That’s a lot to take in” or “No way am I ever going to remember all that,” but Yuuya just looks anxious without an audible reaction.

None of the following dialogue options exist in the novel (the botanical garden scene was removed entirely):

・”He has dog ears!?” / “Muscley dog man, sure why not.”
・”I am so sorry!” / “(Then maybe don’t leave your tail on the path…?”)
・”Are you…smelling me!?” / “I assure you, I bathe everyday!”
・”Please! I don’t have dental insurance!” / “I can’t afford to pay anything!”
・”Yeaah, I don’t think the’s the groundskeeper…” / “That guy reminded me of a lion.”
・”It’s great that you helped out around the house.” / Sounds like you took good care of your mom.”

After Deuce threatens the bullies over the broken eggs Yuuya responds, “Hey, hang on. Chickies? Deuce, calm down,” while Game-Prefect can say either “D-deep breaths!” or “Now you’re even acting like a punk…”

After Deuce admits to being a delinquent, Game-Prefect can say either “That’s hard for me to picture” or “I did notice you had that vibe…” while Yuuya responds, “A d-delinquent?” with narration that he is shocked by the admission.

When Grim asks Deuce if “putting up with jerks” is what honor students do the prefect has the option to say “Grim’s right!” or “Just make sure you don’t overdo it,” followed by either “Even honor students get angry sometimes” or “To be honest, I really enjoyed that.”

In contrast, Yuuya gets a sizable monologue:

“‘I’m grateful to you,’ Yuya said. He took a deep breath. ‘If I’d been by myself there, they probably wouldn’t have let it go even if I had apologized. Who knows what would have happened? Maybe gritting your teeth and putting up with stuff isn’t what being an honor student’s about. I think that speaking up and saying something’s bad when it’s bad the way you just did is what an honor student would do.’ // ‘Fighting’s not good,’ Yuya continued, ‘but that’s exactly why I could never stop a fight like that. I think you’re amazing.‘Amazing?’ Deuce repeated, like he’d been caught off guard. ‘Yeah.’ He nodded. ‘I’m glad you’re in the same class as me.‘You are? That’s the first time anyone’s ever said anything like that to me.‘”

Deuce later refers back to this interaction after they confront Trey, which does not happen in the game:

“He patted Yuya’s shoulder. ‘And, Yu, you don’t need to get all bummed out. It was thanks to you telling me that it was okay to go against the housewarden that I was able to stand up for Ace myself.’ ‘Huh?’ Surprised, Yuya shook his head back and forth. ‘I never said anything like that, though?’ ‘You told me that standing up and saying that something is wrong when it’s wrong, instead of gritting my teeth and putting up with it, is also the honor student thing to do, didn’t you?’ Yuya gaped at Deuce as he realized he had indeed said that. He hadn’t wanted to see Deuce looking so glum, not when he’d been so amazing and had stuck up for Yuya against those delinquents, so he’d tried to tell him everything he truly felt. But he’d never imagined that this would give Deuce the push he needed to stand up for Ace in such a dazzling way. Yuya nearly shouted with joy and awe at the thought that Deuce, a boy who seemed so fully developed, with his strong convictions, would be inspired by his own words.”
