VA Interview: Ace’s Yamashita Seiichirou

“As a child, I would watch Toy Story constantly. At the time, I think I watched it from the same perspective as Andy, but when I saw it again as an adult, I it left a very different impression―it is a work that I am very attached to. That might have been when I first began to appreciate voice acting.

I watched the original Alice in Wonderland and Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland both for the first time after I was chosen to appear in Twisted Wonderland. I was shocked…the cynicism and the cuteness and comicality, the creativity, the tongue-in-cheek humor, etc. It was overwhelming.

I feel like there are as many different answers in those movies as there are viewers. I remember looking forward to seeing how the movies were going to link to Heartslabyul.

When I saw Ace for the first time, his smile left an impression on me, like I was getting just a glimpse of a villain. I also thought his outfits and designs were stylish. They all have the sense of unity that is typical of playing cards, while still having enough individuality to stand out.

At my first recording, we explored Ace’s many aspects and his potential. After a lot of trial and error, I was so happy when my image of Ace was ultimately accepted. The key phrase I kept in mind throughout my performance was ‘these are villains.’ I guess I felt that I should not being bringing justice to his seemingly righteous actions.

I feel like I am enjoying the story with Ace by being conscious of his heart and his inner world rather than being conscious of his voice and the way he speaks. My own goal is to make people think, ‘Yeah, I’ve met guys like this―he’s kind of hard to hate, and I bet he would be fun to hang out with.’

Incidentally, I think that my environment growing up and my own nature are actually more similar to Deuce (I have never tackled a mountain pass with a magical wheel though (laughs)).

I am always happy to see Ace in action, and I loved his ‘Ghost Marriage’ outfit. The different hair was a nice touch. I was able to get his card and enjoyed the storyline.

I kind of play the game in-character as Ace (laughs). I think it’s a great part of the game that, not just Ace, but everyone’s individuality gets reflected in the way they dress. I have recently added Idia to my team in the game and I am enamored by his every move and his outstanding vocabulary.

If I were to enter one of the dormitories…it would be Pomefiore. I would like to try living in a stoic environment to train and become beautiful. Oh, but I would definitely like to visit Scarabia from time to time for the delicious food…”
