Twst VA Interviews: Idia’s VA Uchiyama Kouki

“If I had to choose a favorite from any of the recent Disney films, it would be Zootopia. The world-building and incorporation of contemporary themes was tremendous, and the way it presented all of that with such captivating imagery was very well done.

When I saw Idia for the first time, his dialogue had a stronger impact on me than his physical appearance. I had the thought, ‘This person…what is he even trying to say?’

When creating the role, I tried to portray a stereotypical otaku who seems to have a hard time talking to people, but suddenly becomes talkative or speaks too fast when talking about something he likes or is knowledgable or passionate about. I tried to be conscious of the atmosphere of a person with a stark difference between how they are in face-to-face situations and how they are when talking to themselves, or online: shifting from shy and reserved to suddenly swearing aloud, with an attitude.

There were several lines where I literally did not understand what the character was talking about, so I looked up what I could and asked when I couldn’t figure it out for myself. Everything else happened on the spot.

The character I like the most besides Idia is Dire Crowley. His mask is frightening, and leaves an impact on you. If I were to join one of the dormitories…I wouldn’t be moving into any dorm at this point in my life.”

“When it was decided that I would voice Idia in the game, I didn’t know what had happened between the brothers.

But for Idia Shroud, who has difficulty talking to people face-to-face, I’m sure his younger brother is one of the few people he can truly open his heart to, and I think they acknowledge and rely on each other.”
