Before Vil and Idia’s first opening ceremony as Housewardens Vil questions whether or not Idia will “truly have the guts” to attend in person, despite Idia promising Ortho that he will do so. When Idia does ultimately fail to fulfill his promise Vil says, “I knew it. Exhaustingly predictable, that one.”
Vill calls Idia “pathetic” for hiding during the Wish Upon a Star event because he is afraid of going out in front of a crowd and chastises Idia for the “sweeping generalization” that he enjoys basking in front of the camera.
Vil explains that he doesn’t allow just anyone to post pictures of him online and sometimes doesn’t permit photography at all, inspiring Idia to set up a jammer that keeps everyone in the immediate area from being able to use their phone camera or any other app.
Vil describes Idia’s tone as “snide” and refuses to go to Idia’s aid during Phantom Bride because “he snubs the company of others, yet we’re supposed to fly to his rescue? I see no reason to indulge such selfish behavior.”
Crowley and Ortho force Vil’s (and everyone’s) participation by threatening to alert the media. (Vil: “The tabloids would have a field day, ripping my image to shreds. Unacceptable on all levels.”)
When Idia begs for their help during the event Vil responds, “It sounds like you’ve found someone who loves you in spite of your bad attitude,” and later reveals that he has heard about Idia trying to send Eliza after himself and Leona in order to save his own life by sacrificing them.
Vil’s presence occasionally fills the area he is in with sparkles, and Idia says that he once mistook Vil for a sparkling sculpture.
During Beanfest Vil instructs Idia to join his group (“It was not a yes or no question. I instructed you to come with me”) and Idia refuses, choosing instead to surrender to the opposite team. Vil admonishes him with “What irks me the most is how eager he was…we are going to have words when this game is over, Idia!”
Vil recognizes Idia during Halloween by his “signature snide tone.”
Idia is Vil’s judge for the Master Chef course and he with the fear that no matter what he says Vil will throw it back in his face and offering to give him a passing grade before he has even tasted the cake that Vil has made.
Vil says he wants Idia’s honest opinion (Idia: “This is actually…kinda good!?”), but after receiving it he says he has a more pressing concern: how he looked while he was making it. (Idia: “Why’d you demand a grade from me if you don’t even care?!”)
After spending enough money to qualify for participating in a challenge at the school store during New Year’s Idia refuses, but Vil points out how badly Ortho wants to play, and Idia relents. In the end Vil and Sebek win the match by focusing on Idia, with Vil saying, “I wonder if maybe we were being a bit mean?”
When Idia refuses to go to Playfulland with Ortho, Vil encourages Ortho “to showcase the acting skills (he’s) been cultivating” in the Film Research Club as a wholeheartedly tearful performance “should get (Idia) to fold in no time,” but Ortho says an amusement park would be far too much stimulation.
Vil agrees, saying that Idia would be better off starting with a regular park.
The third tsum event begins with Vil ordering Idia to chase down the tsums with him (Vil’s tsum is caught striking a pose under a light).
Vil comments on the Idia-tsum having a “gloomy face” and Idia responds, “And its first run-in is with Vil. Talk about super scary…I can relate.”
Having captured his tsum Vil tries to leave, and when Idia argues that he helped catch Vil’s tsum so Vil ought help him catch his own Vil responds, “All you did was tag along behind me from a safe distance.”
Idia points out that it is impossible for him to catch any tsums at his athletic level and Vil agrees, joining Idia in propping up a basket with a stick and putting a tablet underneath to catch his tsum.
When the tsum runs away with the basket over it Idia sends Vil to chase after it and he concedes, saying that Idia owes him for the favor.
The tsum soon stops however, with Idia observing that they must take after one another in the “stamina as a dump stat” department.
When Idia reveals that his parents have asked him not to go home for a while after the incident of Book 6, Vil points out that they were supportive of Ortho’s enrollment at the school and of his own internship plans.
Idia concedes that they advised him not to go into the service industry for being a bad fit and Vil explains, “that’s advice they gave to you personally, regardless of the current circumstances.”
Vil may have been the only character who knew prior to Book 6 that Idia is a member of a branch of the family that runs the Jupiter Conglomerate.
Idia loses his patience with the kidnapped students, emphasizes that they have forgotten the chain of command and he is the boss, but Vil is unfazed, pointing out that it is his job to make sure they are treated adequately and quoting STYX’s core mission to emphasize his point. (Idia: “Do you all realize you overblotted and caused serious problems for everyone around you?” – Vil: “Certainly. But I never caused any trouble for YOU.”)
Vil surprises Idia by being interested in the video games available at STYX, saying that Idia’s assumption that “some sparkly, gorgeous supermodel” wouldn’t like video games is narrow minded, as “gamers exist in every field.”
Vil says that he does not own any handheld consoles himself, but he has occasionally played when offered one.
Vil thanks Idia for the “care package” that is the set of skincare products that Rook brings him from NRC, which Idia allows and personally delivers to Vil. (Idia: “I just threw a howling beast a bone. Had to calm him somehow.” – Vil: “You really do have a special talent for getting on people’s nerves.”)
When Epel wonders if Idia will do as they say after he recovers from his overblot Vil responds, “At Night Raven College, the rule is that the weak obey the strong. If we win, Idia will have to do what we want whether he likes it or not.”
In the final battle with the overblotted Idia Vil explains, “l’ve always wanted to be cast as a hero, just once. But there are no heroes or villains here. You and I are just classmates who are both fighting to have our own way,” saying that he will be the one to stay on stage until the end.
Idia tries to follow Ortho into the Underworld but Vil follows after him, saving both his and Grim’s lives but severely aging him up.
Vil explains he brought Idia out of the underworld because it is his job to close the Underworld gate and get the Cerberus System running again, ordering him to clean up the mess he caused.
Vil is first to say that they will be seeing Idia back at school, as he has plenty of work left to do on campus: “And I expect you to face up to all of it and not run away.” Idia reluctantly concedes.
Idia is delighted by Vil’s panicked response to hopping between dreams in Book 7. Vil threatens to smash the screen of the tablet he uses to communicate and Idia responds, “be my guest! Breaking a screen isn’t gonna do any damage to me. And remember, this is a world of imagination! I can basically give my tablet infinite lives.”
Ortho physically intervenes to end the argument.
